Default Delafield Franklin

Will be moving to Milwaukee area soon. Thinking of areas (with new development) further out from the metro area, either Delafield or Franklin, both towns appear to be clean and safe. But which one would be more accepting to transplants (asian couple from NYC). Looking for houses with big yards and quiet surroundings (no more roach infested one bedroom apartments!)

Franlin is in Milwaukee County and actually abuts the city (albeit in the far nether-regions of the SW side), so if you're looking for the further of the two out in the metro area, Delafield would be the one. Delafield seems to be a little too cookie-cutter for my liking and will likely be the more expensive option of the two, but still nowhere near NYC prices. Serious crime is a non-issue in both areas. Both would have newer housing stock.

That's about all I can give you, as I'm relatively unfamiliar with the two areas outside of geography.

Delafield is a really nice lake community that will give you about a 40 minute commute to downtown. It is pretty uniformly Caucasian.

Franklin is pretty wide open with low crime and lots of available Real Estate. I don't know much about the demographics there but it does have a small town feel. It's about a 20 minute commute to downtown. The crime is very low in Franklin but it is home to the county lockup and there's talk about putting some sex offender rehab facility there. The character of Franklin is shifting somewhat as more retail moves into the city.

My thought would be you would be happier in Franklin given your circumstances and what you are seeking.

Franklin I believe is the fastest growing city in Wisconsin; if I am off by that, Franklin is certainly in the top 3.

Although the area is fairly non-transitory (Milwaukee metro area I mean) compared to many large cities - especially in the South, West, and Northeast - Franklin has one of the highest percentages of out-of-town transplants.

You are probably going to be, as an out of towner, happiest in this hot-growing 'burb.

Also, while Franklin is closer to Milwaukee, that is only a good thing. Believe you me, when you are in Franklin, it still feels are far "out there" and suburban as you can feel. The difference is, if you do want your big city fix, the commute into MKE is much more manageable.

I like the Lake Country area, but I am a big Franklin fan (for suburban type living).

Default Franklin

It comes down to where do you work? If you work on the west side of Milwaukee: Waukesha, Brookfield... then Delafield would be a shorter drive. If you work in downtown or south of Milwaukee, Franklin would be better. Delafield is 40 minutes West of Milwaukee and in between Madison and Milwaukee. If you are still young and go out of town often, Franklin is 20 minutes from downtown, 40 minutes to Gurnee Mills and 90 minutes from Chicago.

There are many Vietnamse lives in Franklin, but they keep mostly to themselves.

Both cities are predominantly white. However, Franklin gives you closer proximity to Milwaukee and Chicago than Delafield.

Franklin is more racially diverse than delafield. i would say that franklin is the most diverse outer ring suburb. there are many Indians and vietnamese in the area. a cousin of mine lives off of 51st and Rawson and his neighborhood has a majority of Indians. The schools more diverse than any other outer ring suburb

Default delafield

We are a biracial(indian/caucasian) family living in delafield, we looked at mequon, brookfield and delafield before moving here 3 yrs ago. I think Delafield is definitely much more upscale than franklin, and has far better schools. Brookfield is more diverse, though and closer to downtown milwaukee. If you don't mind the higher taxes and older houses, I would move there instead. Schools are fantastic here, but we do feel like our kids are the token monorities at their schools. I definitely would not move to Franklin, though.
