Actually, most liberals and Democrats don't think of the political opposition as "scum"--just some of the more vocal ones do. The same thing happens with conservatives and Republicans--most are level-headed people, but then we have the vocal radicals like Limbaugh who dehumanize liberals. I would not consider Bush and McCain as scum (though I dislike their politics and other things about them), but for me, Limbaugh might fall into that category (an unabashed hypocrite if there ever was one).

Palin asked the librarian what she would do if someone wanted to ban books but wait for it... wait for it... no books were banned.

I'm leaning toward Obama, but he's not a shoe-in for me; I would have preferred Clinton, Biden, or even Giuliani. I agree with others here that McCain is far better positioned in terms of national security and defense, and regardless of the motivations and far-flung distances of terrorists, terrorism is still very much a threat. Terrorists may act out of either revenge or sheer desire to harm (we can debate that endlessly), they may still act out, and that is a very real and looming problem for the U.S. and other countries.
On the other hand, Obama's positions on actual social policy (especially domestic policy) are more in line with mine. Perhaps McCain is a social moderate to some people, but not to me: he's somewhere between socially moderate and socially conservative (and increasingly playing the conservative card). McCain is more likely than Obama to appoint judges who restrict civil liberties, and McCain has shown himself interested in promoting legislation and executive actions that do the same.
In other matters, the choice is more of a toss-up, with a slight edge to Obama. McCain (and his stance on the current wars) is more likely to keep this country in massive, everlasting debt, and since China is the major owner of our debt (deficit), that is very dangerous. Obama's tax proposals are much more favorable to the middle class and low-income earners. Obama is definitely more of a champion for environmental protection and security, though McCain seems to be aware of some of the most severe problems in this regard.
On balance, the choice is tough: either a well-protected and well-defended nation whose social values increasingly conflict with mine, or a less secure nation whose social values increasingly coincide with mine. It's not a great choice.

I'm not sure I'll even be voting as I wanted Clinton and am irritated by all the Obama hype. Then again Biden may be ok. If Mccain wins I think I will vomit!

Oh and Joy Behars remarks on the View and Larry King stating Palin is mens fantasy of the librarian who takes off her glasses and becomes "VA VA VOOM" is a pretty sexist thing for a woman to say. I realize Joy started out as a comedian but really!

I don't deny there is truth to it. My point was Joy's statement was in poor taste, stirs the pot and tilts the attention away from the important issues. I think she likes to talk out of both sides of her mouth.
On a side note I think it's ironic how Mccain pointed out in his ads how Obama was in sync with Paris Hilton, which didn't make sense to me, and then turned his own campaign into a media circus to skirt the real issues.

IMHO posters on this thread that keep saying palin shortcomings are actually assets are not convincing. if we preach church, freedom, justice and the american way, we should live it. people that do not live close to their cores values are not stable.
