Area between Lake Park and Riverside Park in NE Mil
How safe is this area? Is it walkable after dark (which is going to be 5pm pretty soon)? Thanks.

If your a dude it's safe, if your a girl or a car, expect to get f'd with/broken into, or at least feel a little intimidated. Weird things happen on the east side, tons of college chicks and tons of pervs from the rest of the city creepy enough to drive down there for a chance to cop a feel. Walk tall and don't give in to anyone trying to provoke you and you'll be fine. It's mostly the area by riverside park that gets sketchy after dark. All in all IMHO it's fairly safe, but I don't have a sweet rack or a stereo attached to my dash.

About as safe as you can find anywhere in the city. Take a look around... people with $750k homes aren't going to look too kindly upon criminal activity.
Keep in mind it's a college neighborhood, and it's a city neighborhood. Crime can happen anywhere, but this area is a lot less likely. It has Milwaukee PD and UWM PD patrolling the area.

If you're a woman, I personally don't think it's safe to walk alone after dark anywhere-city, suburban or rural. At least get a dog if you're a woman walking alone. If you're a man, you'll likely be ok-I wouldn't walk through Riverside park by yourself, but on Oakland should be fine. Just be smart about it-keep your head up, look alert, make sure it's early in the evening (before 10:00 p.m.). If you have to carry a wallet, put a small amount of cash in a separate pocket so if you get mugged you can pass them the cash and they will think they have all your money. My friend was mugged in the Walgreen's parking lot on Oakland-her purse was stolen-it turns out there was a group of crack addicts mugging people but I think they're all caught now. So stuff does happen. The closer you are to Lake park, the better.

Thanks for all the replies! My gf's been living down there with her brother and I got worried. She never goes out at night, but she walks to and from work (8-4:30). I'm moving down to Brookfield/Milwaukee soon and she's moving to a nice neighborhood come the end of December, so hopefully things continue to go well.

Worried? About what? Crime is as rare on the east side as it is in Brookfield.

She's moving from the East Side to a "nice neighborhood"?
Where's she moving, River Hills?

Why are people so damn paranoid? What are you afraid of? Is it gangbangers? Drug addicts? Colored people? Packs of wild dogs? Zombie hordes? Rapist bears? Things happen. There's no reason to live your life in never ending fear. I would like to tell you to move to the countryside, but apparently you still think that's a dangerous place too. I know. Dig a hole in the ground large enough to lay down in. Next, lay down in the hole and cover yourself up with the dirt you set aside from digging. Voila. Safe and sound.

Just a more 'neighborly' place in Wauwatosa, less people walking by, shorter walk to work.
