Ma'ruf expresses its utmost discontent and displeasure with the possible issuance of a tavern license for Flavors Supper Club, formerly Club Escape, at 6263 N Teutonia Avenue. The night club known as Club Escape was the site of a gun battle last November which resulted in the homicide of Patrick Agee. Prior to the homicide, the club was the target of a drive-by shooting which took place only five months earlier. It is for this reason the owner was forced by the Milwaukee Common Council to surrender his tavern license and subsequently close the business.
The club's very existence has drained the city of Milwaukee of its resources by forcing its police to tend to on-going incidents of assaults, larceny, vehicle thefts, vandalism, drunk-driving, fights, and homicides around the club's immediate vicinity. This has left other areas inadequately protected and vulnerable to crime.
The issuance of a tavern license to the club owners will do nothing but disregard the heroic efforts of the common council to put an end to the culture of violence and lewdness such clubs help to promote. Regardless of the identity of the club owner, the patrons will be the same and the pattern will continue. Priority must be given to the residents of the neighborhood who wish to build a safe, productive, and family-oriented environment for the future of our youth.
Ma'ruf and Milwaukee's Muslim community strongly advise the Common Council not to issue a tavern license for the owners of Flavors Supper Club. We call on the city Aldermen and the residents of Milwaukee to take a stand against the licensing and to unite in efforts to bring safe businesses that improve the quality of life in Milwaukee.
