Default Traveling to Milwaukee for 1 night

I'll be in Milwaukee on 3/20 Tuesday, for 1 night only - coming from NYC. I'd like to grab a steak and a beer or go wherever a native might recommend to someone in town flying solo for an evening. Wish the Bucks were playing that night, but any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

PS Also, how much snow is on the ground out there?

Default one night in Milwaukee

If you're only going to be here one night this would be my suggestion. All of these places are downtown by the way, not sure if that's where you want to be.I would stay at the Pfister hotel. It's not your typical hotel. It's a very elegant Victorian hotel and it is considered one of the best hotels in the country. It's also in a great location on Wisconsin Ave. You can find them on the web if you do a search for Pfister Hotel Milwaukee.
For dinner I would suggest Maders. It's a traditional German restaurant with a long history in Milwaukee on Old World Third street. They do have steaks too. There website is www.madersrestaurant.com. An alternate place for steaks would be the Milwaukee Chop House on 5th and Wisconsin, I think. You can also find them on the web.
Now for that beer. No trip to Milwaukee would be complete without a visit to the Safehouse. It's hard to describe, you really have to see it but it is the most unusual bar I ever seen, very fun! There website is www.safe-house.com. There are plenty of good brew-pubs downtown but the safe-house is definitely the most unique and memorable.
As far as snow, there is about 5 or 6 inches in my yard right now but by 3/20, who knows. Most likely there won't be any snow or we could have a foot.
Enjoy you night in Mil-town.

Default Milwaukee

Mohawk,

Thanks - German sounds great. I appreciate the info - I will likely be back, and this helps me cut to the chase with such limited time. Will definitely check out that bar.

We have the same amount of snow here (I'm really in CT, just north of NYC), but it's snowing again today. It's hard to complain since this winter has been relatively snow-free, although from Jan 13-Feb 22, the temps were averaging about 5 - 10 degrees at night and not much better during the day.

Regards,

mdkkr

WATER STREET BREWERY!!! They have in house, local brew, and an unbelieveable NY Stip!

Also, as a backup, would be the Hotel Metro or the Knickerbocker.

RE: Snow - we got about 1.5 feet by us, and expecting more in the coming week.

I'm writing this all down.

So I guess I will find more than just Miller Beer? That's good to know! German food seems also like a possibility - I imagine the steak houses are comparable to Chicago though.
