I hear all this talk about L&S and Happy Days and Rustbelt city/blue collar. All three of those things have since disappeared long time ago. We hardly any factories any more, health care is huge here along with finance jobs, and a plethora of small craft breweries. I guess what we need to change peoples perception is a new tv show. Milwaukee has become more of a trendy city, my neighbor keeps complaining about how rent and housing has shot up thanks to all the yuppies moving in. Beer used to cost a dollar here and now I don't notice the difference in price when I go to Chicago which is only 30min away(suburbs to suburbs).

I have heard nothing about Milwaukee. All I know is that it is a Great Lakes city. Seems like a nice place to live, but I'd imagine it is rather cold in the winter. Oh, and lots of beer!

Milwaukee is always being compared to Pitt, the two cities are very similar in size, demo's and history.

If you like being around people who look like you and share your biases ...
As I said in my earlier post, Milwaukee has some terrific areas for a brief day visit. As for daily living, not so great if you are interested in a diverse, interesting and open city experience.
"According to the Public Policy Forum (PPF), a non-partisan, non-profit organization in Milwaukee, the majority of the city does. They released a study in September and found that the majority of people prefer to live in a neighborhood with people of their own race, resulting in racial isolation or segregation."

Milwaukee and its suburbs are the home to the headquarters of 13 Fortune 1000 companies, including Johnson Controls, Northwestern Mutual, Manpower Inc., Kohl's, Harley-Davidson, Rockwell Automation, Fiserv, Marshall & Ilsley Corp., Wisconsin Energy, Briggs & Stratton, Joy Global, A.O. Smith, [31], GE Healthcare Diagnostic Imaging and Clinical Systems and MGIC Investments. The Milwaukee metropolitan area ranks fifth in the United States in terms of the number of Fortune 500 company headquarters as a share of the population.
