Well the first thing being the people being not welcoming to outsiders. And i have heard this from my American Californian friends.

Second you said to Golu that living in canada prepared him for the worst. How bad does this actually gets. I have never lived in a place where it snows. I am really having hard time to guage the difficulty in living in milwaukee in cold weather. Some people say it will be very difficult for you, some say you will get used to it. I don't have much of a outdoor life style anyway so i am guessing i will be ok with this. What do you think?

I really appreciate your reply.

Thanks.
Heya,

Let's start with part 2 of your question. I won't lie to you and say that the snow & cold isn't part of winter. You will have to bundle up and if you have property you will have to shovel the driveway. It's part of life here and millions of Wisconsinites manage just fine with it year after year. The question is really a matter of taste. Personally I love it. The thought of having 12 months of the same season is a huge turnoff. How you feel about it really is up to you.

On the positive side, before winter comes you have *awesome* autumns to enjoy!

As for the welcome you'll receive, I don't think you'd find Milwaukee to be any more or less hospitable than other cities its size. If you had to characterize people in this part of the country, you might call them standoffish. It may take time for them to warm up, but afterward they can be the friendliest people on Earth as I've found. One thing you won't find is the phoney-baloney to-your-face kinda nice that you see in California. Maybe that's why your friends from that part of the world found it a turnoff.

No sweat. I'd get more opinions than mine but WI is a pretty cool place to live IMHO.

My 2 cents worth ..
Milwaukee is a GREAT place to live. I lived there for 15 yrs from 1970-1985 and always hated the weather. So we moved to .. the frying pan: Tucson (toosun) AZ.
I don't know if I could have made a bigger mistake !!.
And so I started to apreciated the beauty of the different seasons and the frigid months for which MKE is notorious. Its no fun to perform your daily life and battleling the snow and cold and everything they convey, and that's when you apreciate the other seasons.
I will retire in few years and I plan to go back home.
Milwaukee here we come !!!
