They do accept debit cards, though. (They didn't used to but they have been for several years now.)
From what I have been told, THEY also have a no-fee ATM on premises. You may pay if your own bank charges a fee.

I'm totally in love with Trader Joe's, so as long as there is one within a thirty minute drive, I think I can survive in Milwaukee. I am a bit of a foodie, so while I don't need expensive or name brand stuff, I do like trying different locally produced, gourmet, specialty, or international foods. And it sounds like there will be plenty of that available. Yay!

Yep, Trader Joe's is attached to Bayshore Mall, about 10 min. drive on 43. I just went there for New Years though & I have to say, I'm just not impressed w/them. Eh, that's just me though. Like others mentioned, go to Pick n Save. The Metro Market, which is a Pick n Save, on Van Buren is a little higher end but the prices are the same as far as I can tell. They have a better selection w/cheeses & seafood. If you want good string cheese, go to Koppa's on Farwell. I'll warn you, they're more expensive on normal items than a regular grocery store. I wouldn't do your normal shopping there, just certain items. Also, Glorioso's on Brady is a good italian small store. They have canned San Marzano tomatos, the best! You won't find those in any other grocery store. They also sell really good canned tuna fish, a brand called I think Genova. I hate tuna & that's the only brand I will eat. Like others mentioned, Sendiks is a good local store as well. You'll find the closest one to you on Downer Ave. They also have a good floral selection. Speaking of Downer, there's Downer Liquor across the street from Sendiks. If you don't know wine & need help, that's your place. They know their stuff. Also on Downer, Breadsmiths. Very good bread, smells awesome in there too! Also on Downer is True Value Hardware, you mentioned something about household stuff. All of the places mentioned are local, except maybe Pick n Save. I wouldn't go to Sentry, I just don't feel they stand up to Pick n Save & the other places. As far as household items....I think the only place I could recommend is Target. I'd go there over Walmart anyday. Or if you're looking for used furniture, like desks, NOT sofas, I'd check out Value Village on North Ave. & Martin Luther King Dr.

claudelle is on a distinguished road
From about mid-June until the end of October there are farmers' markets in various locations around the city. Local area farmers bring in produce as it becomes available. Many also have fresh baked goods, honey, soy candles, flowers, fresh poultry, etc. There is a sizable Hmong population around Milwaukee. Many rent garden plots from the city and raise vegetables and flowers that they sell at various farmers' markets around town.

Around Memorial Day there will be listings in the paper announcing locations, hours, etc. Look for "The Shepard Express," a free local paper that you'll find in all the stores located in your "new area." There will be listings for everything that is going on around Milwaukee -- restaurants, clubs, music, theatre, art openings, etc.
