I suspect with the coming environmental changes, we will all be seeing less public lighting in the future, rather than more, brighter lights.

I haven't started driving yet(I'm 22, go figure), but if I do drive, I must say this, I wouldn't feel comfortable driving on a dark road. Part of it has to do with my vision. Driving on a dark road is rather scary in my opinion. Anything could happen. At least on well-lit highways you can see where you are going.

Typically, dark interstate roads have reflective material on the side of the road/medians to help with driving. That and your headlights will help you see where you're going.

But in a city you need a lot of lights due to the fact that you'll never know what could be on the freeway and the amount of cars. Dogs, metal scraps, mattresses, debris from all the dump trucks. This is why you need a ton of lights for safety. All of Milwaukee County should be well lit, and I94 all the way out to Oconomowoc and north on 41/45 should be lit up to Richfield. I-94 south to ILL should be lit up as well.

The way Milwaukee should be lit up it should look like KK ave between Rusk and Ellen St. By Lees Luxury lounge and The Palm and The Old Groove. This area has the standard tall street lights with the decorated small lights(ie Lights in the third ward) in between the the tall street lights. If you ever go here at night you will notice how much brighter and cleaner/safer it looks.

I literally live right there. I've never noticed the difference in lighting...perhaps I'll keep my eye out next time I go out at night.

Highways left in the dark - JSOnline
Looks like I was right about this!
Nearly four out of every 10 streetlights along I-794 and the Lake Parkway are burned out, leaving motorists to drive without the guidance of that familiar orange glow spilling down from above as they cruise the expressway late at night.
The patches of darkness aren't unique to I-794 and the parkway. Years of shrunken state budgets have left little cash for replacing the tall lights that line highways and interstates, the Public Investigator Team found.

Just got back from Louisiana and Milwaukee has a lack of bright lights and lack of amount of freeway lights and street lights.
