Another question- any restrictions on Pit Bulls?
My pup is a pit mix (beagle/pit). I searched online and couldn't find any city ordinances to do with pit bulls, but just checking to see if anyone knows different.

Awwww, cute puppy!
I think pit bulls might have to be walked on a leash in the city but that rule might apply to all dogs, not just pit bulls. You can contact the Wisconsin Humane Society to find out if there are any other restrictions on pit bulls.

Thanks so much for the information! The link was great. The house we're most interested in now does have a fence, so that's good. I don't have a clue if my pup is 50% pit or not. I'd have the fence anyway just 'cause my girl isn't exactly a "stay in the yard" kind of dog. We live in an apartment now, but when I've had her in Indiana to visit my parents, she has to go on a chain in the yard. I think we're planning on keeping her a house dog with access to the yard through a doggy door anyway. The gate that goes to the back yard (on the side of the house) is only like 3 1/2 feet high, but my dog has a 50 lb pit bull body on short little legs, so she can't jump anyway. Thanks again for the help!

I'm sure your cute little dog isn't going to have to have a fence or kennel. The only time Milwaukee will enforce this is if neighbors call and complain. We had a violent (100%) pitbull on our block and our neighbors called and the city made him put up a fence. This poor dog was neglected and left out in the middle of winter for hours. Eventually this loser owner was evicted thanks to some angry neighbors, sadly after already trashing the house bought from an elderly couple who owned it for 50 years.

oh, that's really sad poor pup and poor neighbors. I figured as much- I didn't really think animal control was going to be walking around looking for possible part pit bulls, but she'd need a fence anyway. I think it's a bit silly to restrict ordinances to certain breeds, as for the most part I think dog attacks are attributable not to bad dogs, but bad owners. But, I can see the point that gang banger types are attracted to certain breeds, so it's best to place restrictions on those breeds. As long as the ordinances are reasonable (which milwaukee's seem to be), I don't have a big problem with it. Now- when cities start banning breeds, I think that is outrageous.

I don't think the actual City of Milwaukee has a ban on pits, but I think a couple outlying areas do. Which I've never understood, I think pits are sweet, I used to work at a vet & never had any problems w/them or Rotts or any other breeds that people think are so vicious. It's really the owner that is the problem. Just make sure you've got your eye on your dog at all times, especially if you let it go outside by itself for awhile. I've heard stories of people stealing them for dog fights. Now, it may not be a regular occurrence, but I have heard of it so please make sure she's never alone.
