Milwaukee's Next Hot Neighborhood
If you said 20yrs ago that there will be million dollar condos in Walker's Point or The Third Ward or along the Milwaukee river and that all the houses in Brewers Hill will be above 300,000...."your nuts!!"
So now that we have learned our lesson and with the current housing slump, if your a young professional in Milwaukee and looking for a house you are officially a kid on caffeine in a candy store. The Cat is out of the bag on Bayview and Walker's Point and Brewers Hill. In 10-20yr range where will be Milwaukee's next Brewers Hill or Third Ward?
Here is my guess: Halyard Park and it's no secret since it's right next to Brewers Hill on the west side of MLK. Here are the boundaries:
North Ave on the north
6th Street or Halyard St on the west
Walnut on the south
MLK on east.
If you have ever been there, you'll see a whole street of brand new houses and one condo project already built. I think you'll see spill over from Brewers Hill and since it's north of the Park East land I think in 20 yrs this will be completely redeveloped. Plus it's next to Schlitz park office center.

The problem with Bayview is that there are so few apartment buildings there. It is mostly residential homes. I think for an area to be the up and coming next place to live there has to be many apartment units available.

Wow. That is the least trollish statement you have yet to make on this forum. Congratulations on not saying anything outlandishly racist.

LOL, yes thanks Angorlee. Anywho, I live in Bayview, moved here from Brady St....unfortunately. Bayview likes to think of themselves as the "new east side" but sadly, it just is not. I miss the east side w/a vengeance, I'm there all the time. I just have not warmed up to Bayview in the almost 3 years I've been here. Where I live, there's not much around, you have to drive almost anywhere to get something & the Walgreens a block away from me closes at 9, what's up w/that???? I suppose if I lived in a cute flat near the lake (although I'm currently only 2 blocks away from it), & had a yard & balcony I'd feel differently. Actually, no, I take that back. Every morning I'm on Brady St. & I always get in a better mood when I'm there. Sorry people, just had to vent. I'm an east side girl, always have been, always will be.

Pabst City is a nice development which goes under the radar. It is the redevelopment of the old Pabst Brewery for those who are not familar. Also, the 5th ward, south of the 3rd ward, will continue to develope. The Park East corridor will slowly develope over the next 20 years. The area north of Park East from 6th street on the west to North Ave on the north will continue to fill in. North of North Ave will be tough. The neighborhood is still very rough and much work needs to be done. Bay View will continue the way it is now. There is little area to redevelope and it will remain a working class area and a cheaper version of the east side. The east side will continue to develope. Outside of the Downtown/East Side surrounding area I see little change. Areas such as Washington Heights, Jackson Park and Story Hill will continue to be desirable neighborhoods. The other parts of the city will not change much. They will continue to be either poor, working class or populated by city employees.

Have you seen the Third Ward and Fifth ward lately? and Brewers Hill and Commerce Street. Bay View is coming along just at a slower clip than other areas but is still what I would consider an up and coming neighborhood.

Is working class another word for middle class or are you talking even below middle class?
People who see Milwaukee as a dump or a hole just haven't been to the whole city and probably never been to any other big city. I always here people rip Milwaukee but when the go to Chicago or other big city's it's "well I guess it's just like any other big city". People in rural Wisconsin seem to think Milwaukee should look like their quaint small town but in big cities you have extreme wealth and extreme poverty just the way of the big city and you have the in between areas. I love Milwaukee and all the character about the city but when people make uneducated assumptions about my hometown I feel obligated to correct them or educate them on how beautiful Milwaukee really is. Believe me, if you think Milwaukee is a dump then don't go to Chicago, New York, LA b/c you'll only disappoint yourself. Milwaukee is not a hole or dump or ghetto but one of the more beautiful cities in this country and if you don't think so then...we'll I can't help you. Milwaukee is more than Miller park and downtown and by going to just "attractions" in the city you'll never get a good feel for a town. It's like driving through St. Louis and saying "this town is a dump". You have to see the whole movie before you can judge, don't just rely on movie reviews.

Milwaukee City - You need to read my post little more closely before you comment on it. I stated the 5th ward and the Brewer Hill neighborhood. I stated the area north of the Park East, 6th to the west and North Ave to the north. This area is Commerce St. and Brewer Hill. Also, working class to me is middle class, which I see nothing wrong with. Most working class/middle class neighborhoods are nice. Most of us are middle class, as is most of the city of Milwaukee. Nowhere did I refer to Milwaukee as a dump. Please take some time to read things throughly before you post a comment of it.
