Default New to Milwauke

Hi everyone,

I am moving to milwuakee from michigan this May, and looking for a safe area to rent an apartment. I have it narrowed down to menomonee falls, and the old Granville area near 107th and Bradley. Can anyone give me some information about those two areas especially granville?

Thank you

If I were picking between Granville and Menomonee Falls based on safety, I would go with Menomonee Falls. It has a small town feel, yet it is conveniently located along Highway 45 so it's not a bad commute into the city. Also there are a lot of nice condo style apartment complexes in the area.

The Granville area of Milwaukee you mention is perfectly safe. Search a few threads and you'll find some positive mentions about the 53224 (Granville) zip code. Menomonee Falls is also very safe. Shopping is abundant in both, with MF being more remote and the Granville area being closer to the cultural and social center of Milwaukee.

I am one of the bigger advocates of the 53224 zip code in this forum, and I love that underrated portion of Milwaukee near the Granville area; my wife and I used to own a home right near there (94th and Bradley) and were thrilled with the home / area.

Having said that...

I am going to pull a swerve here and suggest you consider the Menomonee Falls option.

*The reason being* - I know that 107th and Bradley area quite well, and while for the most part it is a very nice part of town, there are a few apartment complexes I specifically know in that area that are shaky. Certainly wouldn't be top on my areas in which to rent.

Again, not necessarily that the area is shaky itself, just the physical apt complexes themselves. I don't know if one of these that I am thinking of is the one you are eyeing, however, I would say there is a decent chance of it.

I think as a newcomer with no real experience in either area - since you are just renting anyway - you'd be safer with your choice in Meno Falls. Rent there for 6 months or whatever, and check out the Bradley area yourself. If after 6 months you'd be happier in the Bradley Rd. area, then make the switch.

Truthfully, the Granville area is so darn close to Menomonee Falls, there isn't a huge difference anyway. They are kind of just across I-45 from each other, with some of Menomonee Falls a bit farther north.

I don't know about that complex, however it's very close to Menomonee Falls. Personally, I'd probably go in the direction of Menomonee Falls head just a little farther in & you'll be fine.

Default You can check the complex

on www.apartmentratings.com I checked the Sunse Ridge last year, can't recall but something turned me off to it.

I don't know that area too well, but the other posters here seem to know it. The entire North Side of Milwaukee is different since I grew up, so can't vouch for any safety factors any more.

I recommend that you drive to your prospective rental in the middle of the day and also at night, esp. on Fri. or Sat. It will give you an idea of how 'residential' your place will be...some places get overtaken by lowlifes, and they always seem to be buzzing at night, with too much potential for danger for my taste. Had I done this religiously, I'd have saved myself a few bad moves in the past!

Personally, I also look at the cars in the apt. complex...too many junk cars & I'm not living there

Hope that helps & good luck with your move!

If you have or plan to have kids any time soon, stay out of milwaukee!!
ANd yes, that area is still generally ok, but the crime is increasing ans some not-so good apartment complexes in that area with residents I wouldn't want as neighbors.
