the only way to really find out is to go to the area that interests you and check it out. Otherwise you will be getting differing opinions from people who have different world outlooks that reflect their personal view of things.

I'd also love to read posts about the different areas of Milwaukee. We're thinking of relocating to the area and live on the Gulf Coast. If I'm lucky, I'll get one opportunity to house hunt for a few days (as we have on several previous long distance moves). Not everyone can afford to make multiple trips to personally check out their new community. If anyone can offer opinions on where a fiftyish empty nest couple might find a safe and relatively affordable community - I'd be very appreciative.

50'something, what kind of neighborhood are you looking for ? City Life? Urban Suburban? Suburban? or just outside the suburbs? You will be retiring soon if not already and consider what will be your lifestyle in 10-20yrs. I can tell you about Milwaukee in a nut shell. We recently in the last 5-10yrs have experienced a boom downtown and in the areas around downtown. Condo's going up every where and we have had a ton of empty nesters move downtown from the suburbs. How close do you want to be to museums, the lake, Miller Park, shopping, nature trails? Please tell more about what you are looking for.
