My god, my god, my god...
I really can't believe some of the comments I'm hearing. First off, Milwaukee's socialist legacy is rooted in the fact that many of the immigrants who arrived in Milwaukee in the mid-19th Century were Germans, Scandanavians, and Poles who came from societies where government made huge investments in the well-being of the populace. There's absolutely no coincidence in the fact that the first Kidnergarten ever was established in Milwaukee. Also there's absolutely no coincidence that the 20th Century Progressive Movement was led by Wisconsin's own Senator LaFollette.
The legacy of some of the socialist mayors were:
- An excellent park system so that laborers would have a place to relax and enjoy with their families on the weekends.
- Superb healthcare
- One of the best state university systems
- Excellent public education
So the next time you go to a Milwaukee County park, enroll your child in kidnergarten, send your kid to UW-whatever, get an operation, celebrate your kid graduating from a top-performing public school system, or even cross the Hoan Bridge--think about the fruits that you reap from the dreaded, evil Socialists.

I wish Atlanta would have developed like that. Actually, when Governor Zell Miller was in office, the state of Georgia actually did get close to socialism when he implemented the PreK program and the HOPE scholarship. The state of Georgia historically has never invested in the well-being of its people. This is more so for Atlanta.

I thought Roy Barnes was the governor of GA in 2000.
I don't see socialism as a bad thing. If the socialism was there, I would benefit from it.

Roy Barnes was governor and Zell Miller was running for another term in the US Senate in 2000. He was appointed Senator by Gov Barnes when Senator Paul Coverdell passed away after a bout with cancer in 1999.

True.
I think socialism can be good. I do have somewhat socialist views on some issues myself.

The only good thing that ever came out of socialism was our park system.
