I do not believe socialism is illegal. I think the USA has a problem with the concept of socialism in general. Some people can't tell the difference between socialism and communism. There are also other reasons why socialism is not liked. The USA is a capitalist nation and many people don't like socialism for that reason.

The first two could sound like any somewhat socialist government, but the last one sounds like Nazi Germany during the Holocaust. I abhor that.
Socialism as a concept, I have no problem with. I do have a few somewhat socialist views. If I am a millionaire, what is a few thousand dollars in taxes to me? I'm more worried about the person who could lose his job. Naziism is not really socialism. Naziism is racism combined with genocide. It misused socialism as a way to conduct their horrible acts. Socialism as a concept doesn't sound bad to me.

sure, I believe it. socialism as a whole is embraced by people who "need" and want things handed to them ('share the wealth'). Um...Milwaukee as a whole has a large number of people who are used to handouts lets just say. I recall when so many people were flooding milwaukee because we had better welfare than chicago. Nice. We all know how great socialism works. lets look at milwaukee.

My Great-Grandfather was a very active Milwaukee Socialist. The newspapers published literally thousands of his letters promoting Socialism.
I was born a few days after he passed away at the age of 98 in 1967. He was waiting for me but didn't quite make it. Family members have joked around that he reincarnated into me. I share his interest in politics and current events. Yet we could not be more different on the political spectrum. I am as anti-Socialist as anyone. While he thought Socialism would bring about some type of utopia, I believe all of our social problems can be blamed on Socialism, especially how the welfare state destroyed the great American family.
I did a Google search and was surprised that my great-grandfather made it to internet age. One of the sites listed was the State Historical Society of Wisconsin. They have a recording of a 1962 interview where he talked about his life and of course... Socialism. I would love to be able to listen to that!
