Default relocating to Milwaukee and don't know the city - help on where to live- 21 years old.

Recent Pittsburgh graduate relocating to Milwaukee for job in Oak Creek. I am 21 and would appreciate any suggestions on where to live in Milwaukee? I am not familiar with the area.

My thanks,

If your a city guy then: Upper East Side/Lower East Side, Downtown, Third Ward, Walker's Point(5th Ward), Avenue's West, Brewer's Hill.

If you want to be close to downtown but more quiet place: Bay View, West Milwaukee, Wauwatosa, Glendale, Shorewood, Whitefish Bay.

If you want to live close to work then: Oak Creek, Franklin, Muskego, Hales Corners, Greenfield, Greendale, Far South Side of Milwaukee.

Please give more info of what you want in an area to live?

East Side - It's not even a difficult decision. It's a no-brainer.

IDK about being a no-brainer, but the East Side is definitely a good place for someone your age as well as for someone brand new to the city. There's lots to do on the East Side and most everybody is in the 18-40 age range. I'm 26 and live on the East Side, but mainly because I go to UWM. Bay View, just south of Downtown, might be another option to consider as it would be an easier commute to Oak Creek. I really like Bay View, I actually think it's where I would prefer to live were it not for school.

Live in the City of Milwaukee, near downtown or the east side. Do not move anywhere in the suburbs as you will be bored anywhere else.

As others have said, if I were you I would probably stick to the east side, right around the Brady St. area. If you go farther north towards UWM there will be lots of students which I'm assuming you may not want to be around. Brady area has more of a mix of students & professionals. Another option is Riverwest, it's got a more granola earthy feel w/lots of musicians. Those 2 areas are about a...I don't know, I think maybe a 20 min. drive to Oak Creek depending on traffic.

South of Brady you get into more professionals.

If you check out the east side look into the North Point area. This area consists of the area around St.Mary's Hospital. The boundries would be Lake Michigan to the east, Prospect Ave to the west, 6 blocks north of North Ave to the north and 6 blocks south of North Ave to the south. This is hands down one the best areas of the city. There are the best homes in the city in this neighborhood, plenty of nightlife, a Whole Foods store, the best park in the city(Lake Park), restaurants, movie theatres, and shopping. The corner of Prospect/North/Farwell is only blocks away. The area is always busy, but in a good way. No other part of town offers so much within walking distance. The lake front, Downer Ave, Brady street, North Ave and Farwell Ave. are all within 6 to 8 blocks. The redevelopment of this area has been non stop for the past five years. I would put this neighborhood up against any in Milwaukee.

I live near Oakland & Locust and work out by the airport in Cudahy. It takes me around 30 minutes to get to work everyday, so I imagine it would take a little bit longer than 30 minutes to get to Oak Creek from the East Side.

The east side is great and all, but it's really expensive. If you have a good salary I'd agree it's great,
if not I'd check out RiverWest or BayView which are eclectic and cheaper - and BayView would be very close to your job.
