Best spot to take a skyline photo?
I want a nice skyline photo of Milwaukee...where's the best spot (that I can drive to) to get a good picture from? Thanks!

North Hubbard St street in Brewers Hill, from the lake, from the hoan bridge, from a rooftop somewhere, roots restaurant.

I would recommend taking a shot from the pedestrian bridge over McKinley. You can reach it by taking Juneau to Winnebago near the old Pabst brewery.
Otherwise, there are some really nice views from Kilbourn Park (where North Ave. makes the large curve around the former reservoir) or from Veteran's Park.
Please share the shots you take!

I'll agree with Jesse that Kilbourn Park has the best shots of the city. Many have no idea this park even exists. There is easy access to the park from the north around the Fratney/Meinecke intersection. From there take the paths to the top of the park. The best views of the city. South shore park in Bay View would rank in 2nd place. Veterans park and other points along Lincoln Memorial Drive are also great.

Ditto Milwaukee City...The Hoan Bridge...looks real cool if you can get parts of the bridge in...shows the tallest buildings in the state including the newest towers Kilbourn and University Club, can get bits and pieces of the 3rd ward too...this shot is awesome at night. Also, any shot from the roof of Commission House Condos in the Third Ward...gives a complete uninterupted shot of the whole city...just two blocks away...cannot get closer than this in the city...and yet be far enough away to get it all in. There outdoor, rooftop, common terrace is in the northeast corner of the building...perfect for city shots...nightime again...the best! Ask any owner in the building and they will probably let you in...or I can get you in if you want. Good Luck!

I think the McKinley Marina walway and that hill/park on N. Ave are the best. By Roots is pretty sweet too.
To be honest, just drive around and scope areas...I do that all the time for pics...I'll try to get some up.

Some of the best shots are from the freeway, if you feel like stopping or just pulling over you should be able to get OG shots. PS: I'm so sick of the same two shots of Milwaukee that always appear in the media

South Shore Park, Brewer's Hill, and a few other ones. There are some areas near Washington Highlands in Wauwatosa, that offer nice views of the valley between Wauwatosa and downtown, and the skyline beyond. There are actually quite a few good areas. Marquette University and surrounding neighborhoods that have a clear view across the valley to the southeast, which are also good views.
My favorite nighttime skyline picture is from the farthest east point of Veterans Park. You can get some great shots from there and the nighttime pictures are the best (IMO). The area is no good for afternoon photography; either do an early morning picture or one after dark.
There are other cool shots to be had around Jones Island, the Third Ward, and Walker's Point. Because of the rivers, there are some open areas that allow some unique skyline shots to be taken. Some of it depends on whether you want industrial type photos or the downtown. I would urge you to try a few of them out.
Recently, I was thinking about this. A while ago I ran across some nice B&W pictures of the river and the skyline from the 90s. This was back when I was still using 35mm and doing my own developing. The same shots are probably available today, although I fear that some of the industrial edge has probably long since disappeared.

+1 for that.
There must be 100 varieties of that greasy lakefront lagoon-thing circulating through different promotional materials and websites. I have no idea what the appeal of that angle of the city is, to be quite honest.

Drive towards Milwaukee on the Hoan Bridge on a crisp, clear night. It is breathtaking. Good luck trying for a pic, though. I've thought about putting emergency flashers on, jumping out, and snapping a few on a tripod - but I've never done it.
