Police in Brookfield....
I was stopped at the intersection in north av and Calhoun rd for an illegal u-turn. I'm new in town and there was no sign that indicated that the u-turn was illegal, so I got pulled by the cop who was extremely disrespectful and with an strange attitude. Is this something that is common in Brookfield? I've never experienced anything similar and would like to have opinions on this. Many thanks.

You already posted this. I told you to take it to court & you'll most likely get it reduced. Why you'd want to spend money on an attorney is beyond me. Why don't you go back to the area you got the ticket at & take a picture of it & bring it to court. If there's no sign that says no u-turn, then you'll be in the right. If you made a u-turn in the intersection that has a stop-light, yes that's illegal. I don't know about other states, but it's illegal here. Sorry, you won't get off for that one.

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. I wouldn't make a U-turn just about anywhere in SE WI, especially in such a busy, busy intersection like Calhoun and North Ave. Don't worry, I just moved to a different area and got a ticket for something that wasn't clearly posted either. The tollway drops to 55 from 70 MPH and they have ONE sign that is very easy to miss. I feel for ya, but just use it as a learning experience!

Making a U-turn at an intersection is a big no-no everywhere in the state and worse in my opinion is a U-turn in the middle of the street. I almost got cut off by a taxi that pulled that dumb move when I was driving my motorcycle. He didn't see my smaller motorcycle even though I had my headlight on. U-turns are dangerous moves and the only place where they are acceptable is mid block boulevards. Make a left turn at the intersection and find a driveway to turn around in. And always watch for motorcycles!

Wisconsin hates Uturns, lol. You can do a uie on any corner in Florida, even cops do it. Of course Florida is laid back, Wi. is not.

Who makes U turns at an intersection? Especially Calhoun and North? Foolish.

I just moved here as well, and this was something I had to get used to. Thankfully, our real estate agent warned us of this law because I had never heard of no U-turns at a traffic light. In fact, the first time our agent pulled out into one of those "mid-block boulevards" I almost had a heart attack and thought we were surely about to get hit. Where we come from, everybody does u-turns at the intersection and NEVER in between. However, I am really liking the boulevards... very clever idea!

I also didn't know about the no U-turn at an intersection with a traffic light law until about a year after I moved here. We were in the car when a co-worker commented that someone was doing something illegal and I had no idea what she was talking about. Turns out she was talking about someone taking a u-turn at a traffic light in front of me. I'm glad I heard about it before getting caught on it, because I used to only take U-turns at traffic lights, it was the preferred method in NC.
