Tolls would be good.

Business friendly climate is a must! We're losing too many businesses/jobs to other states.

Also, the county would have a lot more money if they monitored all their social services programs and started closing some of their loopholes that allow undeserving people to get money for doing nothing.

Wisconsin as a whole needs to work on creating an updated image to sell for tourism but Milw really needs to market itself better. Milw really has a lot to offer but not many people seem to know about it.
where are they gonna go(tourist)

city414 - Where are tourists going to go?! Are you kidding me? We are WAY more than some has-been brewing town.

The Harley Museum, art museum, restaurants, festivals, zoo, shopping in the Third Ward. Walking by the lakefront and watching/flying kites in the summer. Fishing on Lake Michigan. All the parks. Botanical Gardens, Domes, Miller Park. Discovery World, Betty Brinn Children's Museum. Rollerblading and biking along the lakefront. Golf courses.

We do have a lot!

Nah. That would mess up city neighborhoods even more, just to save some dude in the suburbs 2 minutes on his way to work.
Actually what I meant was more suburban freeways, like another bypass on the south and one on the north however I would build a freeway from hwy 16 in pewaukee all the way to the lake on Hampton ave. Just look at a map it would make a lot of sense. I would continue I794 all the way down to Caledonia and have it merge with I94.

How would you ever convince any of the suburbs to annex with Milwaukee and inherit its budget problems and especially all the problems with MPS? The fastest way to get me out of town would be to turn my school district into MPS-Unified.

On the state level, eliminating combined reporting and lowering business taxes would help.

I fear what will happen to Milwaukee 20 years down the road because the only way to really get out of the mess is to deal with the bloat of government. Milwaukee's population is off by 18% from it's peak in the 1960s and has been mostly stagnant for the past 20 years and yet the size of government and the amount of taxes needed continue to grow unabated.

This all being said the city itself has a lot to offer and is light years ahead of where it was in the mid 80s. My company brings in clients from all over the country and they always leave impressed and note that Milwaukee is much nicer than they expected.

With the exception of the art museum, and the Harley museum, those things that you listed aren't all that unique. People might come in from the suburbs to see those attractions, but not from half way across the country.

Oh, that's what you meant. I agree with you on I-794, I've even heard talk of extending it to Caledonia to link up with STH 31. I'm not down with the idea of locating a north bypass on Hampton though. Why not build it a few blocks north between Florist and Mill Road where there is all that empty land? Hampton is too close-knit.

Yeah I agree. The economic benefits would be huge. I've seen what the area along the I-43/894 east-west spur by Layton is like.

Another good benefit of such a spur, especially if it's built between Mill and Florist: it will breathe new life into that North 76th retail corridor.

The annex idea makes little sense to me. How does this solve anything. Just spread the same problem to a larger group? The city needs progressive government, better education and a real process to bring jobs to the city. Property taxes are so onerous now that a lot of people looking for a way out, not in. More money from Madison? Please, fix the spending first.
