Question What do you pay for your utilities in the winter, with a family?

My family and I will be moving from Missouri this month and wondering what you pay, on average, for utilities? My husband and I have 3 children, under 4. So even though we have a large family it is mostly just us using it.
What do you pay for utilities during the winter months, on average?

Also what neighborhoods in surrounding Milwaukee would you suggest (family friendly) and for a shortish (under 40 min) commute to downtown, as my DH will be employed there.

Well, quite honestly I walk around in sweatshirts all winter and keep the thermostat as low it it gets. I'm a cool weather guy, so my advice doesn't really apply to you and your small kids.

But one interesting tidbit of info: we have a moratorium here. Utilities can't shut you down between October 1 and April 1. So if you fall behind on your bills for a month you won't have to worry about your house being cold.

I know a lot of people are making some hard choices right now.

Sherman Park's a pretty good family friendly area. It's stable and extremely well-maintained as well as being racially diverse. It's close to the Stadiumk Freeway as well as a few angled city streets that lead you to Downtown.
