Well, up until early 2004, my wife and I lived in a single family home that was part of a condo association in the 92nd-100th and Bradley Rd. area. The neighborhood we lived in was very quiet and very pleasant.
Having said that, they were very close to some townhomes (specifically I am thinking around the 95th and Bradley area) that I had a very, very poor perception of. They seemed fairly unkept, geared towards folks that were rowdy or didn't have much of a pride in home upkeep, etc.; bottom line, I wouldn't have been interested in the least in living there.
Overall, this area is tricky. Some parts are fairly quiet, nice, safe and are just fine. Other parts of the area are extremely sketchy, crime-filled, etc. It is on the farther fringes of Milwaukee's Northwest side that does NOT have a great reputation. However, again, I lived in a home in this area for a few years in a nicer big subdivision and it was very nice.
I would strongly advise, if you would pick to live here, to actually explore the area, the surrounding neighborhoods, talk to neighbors if possible, etc. It can be a decent area, yet it can be really sketchy as well.
Now, in 2007, I seriously doubt I would buy in this area again. Just too many areas very closeby that are potentially high-crime. Just not worth it. If you edged a bit farther north-west, you'd be in Menomonee Falls, which would be a GREAT area to live in.
Again, parts of Brown Deer and Bradley Rd. in far NW Milwaukee can be very nice for middle class incomes, etc., but I would strongly advise personal exploration if you were to buy here not only of the potential places, but of surrounding neighborhoods, etc., and to talk to people. It just might become apparent that there are other similarly-priced areas that would be more beneficial for living.
