My husband & I are planning on staying one night in Milwaukee right around the holidays. Two years ago we stayed at Hotel Metro, but had a hard time finding an open restaurant at 8 or 9 b/c it was the night BEFORE Christmas Eve. We like the feel of Hotel Metro, but were a little disappointed in the lack of activity and food options that night. Any ideas?

That was one place I was thinking, thanks! What about dinner around that area? Anything walking distance or would we have to take a cab? I know we'll be drinking so we won't be driving.

There's a bunch of mexican restaurants right down 6th street, you can even walk to them, the closest being Conejitos. Good food, very cheap.

Il Mito closed and moved to Tosa. As far as restaurants near the hotel their is a great french restaurant on S.1st street called Chez Jacques and I highly recommend Crazy Water on S.2nd a lot of big wigs go there and great food. All within a short cab ride.

Chez Jacques French Restaurant

or

Crazy Water | American Fusion Cuisine

I forgot to mention the Iron Horse has two great restaurants inside that also come highly recommended.

Well the hotel is booked, so now we just have to choose the restaurant. Thanks again! I really don't remember, but can you just grab a cab pretty easily in Milwaukee? Actually it looks like the furthest restaurant is less than 1/2 mile away, so we may just walk it.

Cab's are really easy to catch and are the same price as Chicago cabs if that helps. You can walk but it just might be to cold. Cabs will be in front of every hotel and by all the nightlife stops. But when you go to crazy water for instance just have the waiter call a cab for you other wise you can just stand out side.

Where will you be coming from? and I recommend seeing the Harley museum even if you are not into bikes it's still very interesting. Another good spot to eat and it's more fun than say classy is the Safe House.

We live in the Western Chicago burbs, but I grew up in New Berlin and we got married in MKE at the PAC (or whatever they call it now). Grandma is watching the baby in NB which is why we're staying around the Milwaukee area. It's always fun to see how things have changed every year and check out new places.
