The overwhelming majority of 17 year old girls do not have babies.

In general that's true, but not in inner-city Milwaukee.

Teen pregnancy epidemic hurts Milwaukee businesses - The Business Journal of Milwaukee:
"Milwaukee's teen pregnancy rate in 2004 was 52.67 per thousand 15- to 17- year-old girls. The national rate was 22.1 per thousand girls, according to the report."

The teen pregnancy rate in Milwaukee is just a vicious cycle, it starts with poor parenting, No fathers to be seen and it just goes on from there. I'm not sure if these free condoms will help either.

I volunteer at a program called Wandani at St. Marcus Lutheran Church at 1st/North. It's a program for less than fortunate inner city children. The mother of one of our regular young girls was shot and killed over this past weekend. If you could just keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have no problem with co-sleeping, I co-slept with my kids. What I didn't do was drink alcohol and then crawl into bed with my kid.

There are precautions to take if you decide to co-sleep. Don't drink, don't do drugs, don't drink alcohol, don't co sleep on a soft bed or a waterbed, ( we bought a futon to co sleep),thin blankets, etc, etc. We also kept a crib right next to the bed for nights we could not co-sleep. It is not for everyone and any parent should research the issue before deciding if it is right for them. It is not as simple as just going to sleep in the same bed as your kid.

What these women are doing is not co-sleeping. It is passing out in bed with the kids....Milwaukee can run all the "safe sleeping" campaigns they want so they can say they did something, meanwhile the root of the problem ( Ignorance, poverty) continues to grow.
