What is going on in Grafton/Cedarburg? (Milwaukee, Waukesha: crime, credit card)

Ok, I know Milwaukee has it's problems but Grafton and Cedarburg seem to be going off the rails. The big heroin problem, the teacher getting busted for child porn, and now the pediatrician who was found fondling himself in Target while standing next to a 5 year old girl?!?! I guess it's safe to say life isn't always better in the suburbs.

Germantown isn't what it used to be either!! All you have to do is look in the police blotter section and there are all sorts of assorted things. On a lesser note (still a problem at least to me) is littering. I cannot believe that people just throw things out of their window they don't want. What ever happened to community pride??!!

I think what surprises me the most is the amount of drug use among teens. It seems like they're all doing it, not just the "burnouts" like when I was a kid.

In the 80's in Shorewood EVERYONE was doing drugs. "burnouts" just didn't care if people knew or thought they did. I can remember partying with the soccer and football teams one night and then the "burnouts" behind Citco the next day...

Agreed.

Life in Grafton / Cedarburg / Germantown, etc., is as relatively comparative as it has been for years (outside of the growth of those 'burbs).

It is just now information is spread so rapidly and is known so readily more due to the enhanced communication technologies so prevalent.

That's pretty ridiculous comparing the two. Milwaukee has a serious crime situation while those are just rare isolated incidents. There is no 100% safe place, but that's quite idiotic to even begin to compare Milwaukee crime with that in Cedarburg and Grafton. Unlike Milwaukee they are both safe places to live. What "big heroin problem"?

There was a lengthy article in Milwaukee magazine about it a few months ago. Some teens died and one was sent to jail for selling them the drugs and shooting them up with it. I think the teens were hooked on lethal doses of heroin and some other drug-maybe fentynal?

I'm sorry if it sounded like I was downplaying Milwaukee's crime problems. That wasn't what I intended to do. I was just surprised such a nice suburb would have so many problems with the drugs and some of the teachers.

My husband wants to move to Cedarburg so that's why I have been extra in tune to news in that area. I'm not trying to say that Milwaukee doesn't have problems, I just don't think Cedarburg is necessarily a slice out of heaven, either. I think sometimes you trade city problems for suburban problems. The safer Milwaukee neighborhoods that border the suburbs have teens on drugs, too, but they are more middle class and can't afford the super hard core stuff like teens in wealthier communities. They also don't have unlimited access to cars and credit cards. The Waukesha county/Lake country area reportedly has a bunch of teens on heroin, too. My parents live in a wealthy suburb of Detroit and it was the same thing-these very wealthy suburban kids driving their parents' Lexus into the ghetto to score some of the expensive, hard core drugs. There were some teens from that community that died recently, too, and a big article was featured in the Detroit News. One parent said that drug dealers actually target wealthy kids because they know they'll be able to afford to consistenly support their habit and they have their own transportation to access the dealers. There might be more of an attitude of the parents, too, like "not my kid", whereas maybe if you're a dedicated parent raising a teen in a more urban community you might be more vigiliant? I'm only speculating on this, our kids are little so I'm not sure what it's like to raise a teenager.

I would love to hear from a parent in the Cedarburg/Grafton area to find out what's going on, what it's like to raise a family there, is it true there's big drug problem there or did Milwaukee magazine overblow it? Cedarburg is the only suburb that my husband and I agree on besides Wauwatosa and whatever decision we make will be for the long haul! So I would love more information about Cedarburg because I don't know anyone who lives there and it's quite for from where we live now. City data friends, please help me out with your suggestions!
