Default Commute from southern suburbs to St. Paul - FANTASTIC.

I just recently took over a real estate operation in St. Paul - and I'm driving in and out of downtown during the height of rush hour.

Its NOT bad. Traffic hardly ever stops - and the *longest* trip has taken 40 minutes.

I can't say the same for those poor 494/35W Minneapolis drivers...

Life is goooood,

Robert

I have questions about the 494/35W commutes.

What are some of the commute times like in rush hour? I don't know all the cities yet but here are a few I'll ask about.

What is travel time at rush hour for?

Eagan to Bloomington
Apple Valley to Eden Prairie
Lakeville to Minneapolis
Eagan or Eden Prairie to Minneapolis
Lakeville to Minnetonka

Or if I haven't hit some of the bad commutes. Would someone be able to give an example? For example, going from X to X in rush is not ideal.

We're moving to the Minneapolis area next year and have no idea where our new jobs will be.

Default Another traffic question

How long is rush hour?

Some places rush hour is essentially over by 6pm in the evening or 9am in the morning.

What is the span in the Minneapolis area for rush hour?

By example rush hour in Seattle is 5:30am to 11am and then evening rush hour is 2pm to 7pm. Yep, traffic stinks here!

Eagan to Bloomington (assuming MOA area)-5 minutes in the worst rush hour, 4 without traffic

Apple Valley to EP--is 62 done yet? If so 30-35 minutes
Lakeville to Minneapolis--an hour in rush hour
Eagan to Minneapolis 20-30 minutes in rush hour, to EP 20 minutes to an hour depedning on how backed up it is at 494/35W, if 62 is done, 20 minutes
Lakeville to Minnetonka--an hour to a day depending on how backed up 494/35W is (ok maybe 1 1/2 hours)

Rush hour is pretty much from 7 am to about 8:30 AM and about 4PM-5:30/6:00 PM except on Friday in the summer and then it starts at noon and ends at about 9:00 PM for the northern suburbs.

Default Thanks for the time tables

This is a huge help. Just hearing traffic is good or bad doesn't help until I hear the actual times. Minneapolis sounds great!

Do you take 35E back and forth from St. Paul? It always looks like it's backed up during commute hours to me, but I live and work in St. Paul, so maybe it's just around the Capitol. I'm just asking because a friend of mine who lives in Eagan will be starting a new job in downtown St. Paul and if there's a quicker route, I'd like to tell her.

Depending on where in downtown getting off on Shepard Road, Grand Ave, etc. helps avoid the worst back ups usually. It usually starts backing up where the speed limit goes to 45 and then loosens up after spaghetti junction.
