Default Riverside Plaza back in the news

Rehabbing a rundown Minneapolis landmark | StarTribune.com (http://www.startribune.com/local/99435279.html?elr=KArksCiUnP:E8c7PiUiD3aPc:_Yy c:aULPQL7PQLanchO7DiUr - broken link)

My favorite apartment complex is looking to get rehabbed. I say let it be done, I can't really explain why, but I love the Riverside Plaza buildings...they really define the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood in my opinion. They aren't pretty, but they are definitely unique and stand out.

$113,000,000 for 1,303 apartments? Almost $87,000 per unit to rehab the place sounds excessive to me.

You mean the Crack Stacks? The Ghetto in the Sky? You mean Mini-Mogadishu?

A little too much money if you ask me. Glad I'm not a resident of Minneapolis. Use $113 million for some better rail lines and city beautification.

I am really interested to see how this works out. I know there were other plans to put more housing in that area. With the 2 light rail hubs being there, I can't imagine why the city wouldn't want that location.

It's going to cost a little under $1 Billion to build the Central Corridor light rail line so I'm not sure $113 million goes as far these days as you might think.

It would cover the 'Research Costs' that usually go into those, that are typically in the neighborhood of $5 million

So you'd rather use the money to do research than to repair and improve buildings that provide housing to more than 4,000 city residents....probably explains why you're not in charge of making these decisions.
