This was exactly my experience. I can't stand being around the people that frequent Uptown. Contrary to what people say, alot of those people do live there too. I'd also have a strong preference to the neighborhoods around Dinkytown. As a 20's single adult you really can't go wrong with that area.

Thanks guys for the suggestions. I have been to Uptown as my buddy used to live there and have realized that it probably is too "yuppy" for me. A friend of mine just bought a house in St. Louis Park and another lives right off Lake Calhoun.
