Default Couple looking at moving to Delano

My wife and I are an interracial couple looking to move to MN; we've looked at the Twin Cities which are extremely nice but would prefer a smaller town that's close. I've read the previous threads on Delano and it seems like the type of town we'd be interested in settling. We have no children yet but may in the near future. Based on personal experience/advice, would Delano be a good place for a childless interracial couple?

Thanks.

We have a couple posters from that area that can help. Depending on where you will be working, other areas to consider would be Northfield and Stillwater, Northfield being farther out. Both towns are pretty liberal and would be good places for childless couples in a smaller town atmosphere.

Thanks gofrlgal. I appreciate it; we both work from home so we are flexible with location.

I'm from Delano, it's a great place to raise children. There are plenty of younger couples with young children. Delano, like most places outside the immediate metro, is largely white, but there are people of other races here too. I don't know of people experiencing racial problems at all- most people are very open & friendly. We have adopted Asian children, in our neighborhood there are 5 adopted Koreans, & two adopted African americans. There certainly aren't issues amongst the kids at all. I think the pace here is perfect, smaller town but the city is close enough!

Both Delano and Buffalo would be awesome towns for you, even Monticello, though I would choose Buffalo or Delano over Monticello. Delano has a great school district and is a quiet town, Buffalo is quiet too. Thats why I prefer them both over Monticello because Monticello has the freeway right through it and traffic can get bad there at certain times of the day. Also with Buffalo and Delano not having freeway like Monticello it feels like its own town and not a distant suburb and it definitely feels a lot quieter. The town is also fairly safe and everything and its easy for kids to get on their bike and bike to school or bike to their friends house so parents won't have to drive them. When I was around 5th grade I loved to ride my bike to school, I also loved to walk to and from school also.

I grew up in Annandale for 16 years and never seen anyone intolerant or rude to minorities. People are always friendly. I lived in a trailer park for several years and knew all my neighbors just about and everything and they would always wave and talk to me and such.

Where will you guys be working? Commute could be an issue but it's a cute, small town!

They said they will be working from home so they don't have to worry about commuting.

Monticello looks nice to me, but I could never settle there with the aging nuclear power plant a mere 3 miles northwest from the center of town. I'd also have a problem living in Big Lake for the same reason (NPP is five-six miles straight west of Big Lake, and the prevailing wind is usually from the west).
