Just thought I'd throw this out there on this forum, since it seems fitting given my topic preference. Basically, I have to choose a topic on Minnestoa history for my history class, and the guidelines are as follows are 15-20 pages, with at least 15 sources (both primary and secondary sources).

It's at my discretion what topic I choose and since the closest place for some great sources is the Minnesota Historical Society, I chose to do my topic on something related to Minnesota, and also because I only have until December.

15-20 isn't overly demanding (although it's not a walk in the park, either), although if I don't have an appropriate topic (not too broad, not too narrow), it's critical that I choose something I can adequately fill 15-20 pages with.

I would like to do something pertaining to the state's ethnic history or on how our system of welfare (which is among the best in the country, so I hear) began and how it has evolved. Either of these topics are of interest to me, but I am having trouble really getting it focused down enough.

Any suggestions?

Hi, I've been given an assignment for history class, and can't be bothered to do it myself. Please write my paper for me!

Any suggestions?

What about on one of the Indian Tribes or Minnesota Indian tribes in general. There should be enough out there to fill 15 pages and it can broad or have a narrower scope.

And you accuse me of trolling?

I've thought about perhaps a tribe or tribal issue, but my heart just isn't into that issue entirely. But certainly there is a myriad of issues pertaining to Minnesota's indigenous population.

What about black American migration from Illinois during the 1980s-1990s? Or Somalian/Hmong immigration during that same time period?

Yeah, just in my U' library right now and going over some comments from the Prof, I am thinking either African-America/Black migration or maybe even Indochinese (Laos/Hmong, Vietnamese) migration.

Does anyone know specifics of any of these groups' choice to move here? I mean, clearly we are the coldest state in the lower 48, so there has to be a reason our state has drawn more diverse bodies of people.

I have a 20 page paper to write on Cedar-Riverside and how it was designed due by December. Guess we all are busy with school, eh.

Minnesota reached out to Somali refugees in the 1970s, 80s and 90s. The state provided housing for Hmong refugees in the 1970s and 1980s. African-Americans came in large numbers from Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis and Gary for better job opportunities and a "fresh start."

Mankato is home to a surprisingly large Sudanese community. I assume most are refugees.

For ethnic resources don't forget the resources on the U's campus; Anderson Library is home to the Immigration History Research Center.

Yeah, the West Bank libraries are very good for that kind of stuff.
