Default Former Pres. Jimmy Carter fixing up houses in North Minneapolis

Anybody else see this?

Carter hammering for Habitat | StarTribune.com (http://www.startribune.com/local/104425463.html?elr=KArksCiUnP:E8c7PiUiD3aPc:_Y yc:aUU - broken link)

I love stories like this. I'm just picturing Jimmy Carter, Walter Mondale, Al Franken and R.T. Ryback hammering bolts and attaching siding to a north Minneapolis home...great stuff

419 30th Ave. N. 2 block south of Lowry 2 blocks east of Lyndale.

It's the 2nd or 3rd house that H for H has done right in that area this summer/fall. The other one that is nearing completion is just a little south on Lyndale.

Just because George W. Bush doesn't show up in Minneapolis to build a house for Habitat for Humanity doesn't mean he or other Republicans aren't involved in philanthropy.

As an interesting aside, all data suggests that the more conservative someone is, the more giving and charitable they are with money, time, and even things like blood to both secular and religious causes. This is across all income levels - so when you break down data, the average conservative making 30k per year gives significantly more than the average self-identified liberal making $30,000 per year.

Google can be your friend....

Carter has http://www.cartercenter.org and Clinton has http://www.clintonglobalinitiative.org/. Both are grander scale than just helping build few houses at a time. What do the Bushes have?

Can you please cite some sources for this claim? This is exactly opposite of things I've read and/or heard in the past. I am aware of studies showing that the less a person makes, the higher the likelihood that they will donate/ give a higher percentage of their income to charitable causes and/or friends and family members in need- meaning, low/moderate-income folks give more of what they earn each year. Granted, the Republican party panders to a large base of low-income folks on single issue topics (abortion, guns, jingoism, attacks on the separation of church/state, gay marriage, etc.), but considering that the Republican party largely caters to persons of wealth and their monetary self-interest, I can't imagine this is true unless you're talking annual/raw dollars vs. percentage of annual income. If you're talking raw dollars, then it's a moot point as I assume there are likely way more extravagantly wealthy conservatives than otherwise, and the rich share much less (percentage-wise) of the tax burden in this country than working and middle class, and generally are very creative at finding loopholes to paying taxes, all of which frees them up for some large monetary donations- which is still very great- but many multi-million dollar donations are often far less percentage-wise for rich families than the average American's ratio of tax burden/ charitable donations to overall assets and income.

Flame x2.

If you want to talk politics, wander over to the politics board and knock yourself out with others making similar ad hoc political arguments: Link.

Habitat for Humanity is a Christian ministry that practices what it preaches. The organization and its participants have nothing to do with politics.
