One more week and I will be moving from Denver to St. Paul.

I will sorely miss the Denver Library system as you can log in over the
web and request CDs and DVDs from any Denver Metro Library for pickup
at your local library branch. It's just like Netflix only that its free and you
can checkout CDs as well.

This has been a spectacular way for me to learn about Classical Music and
discover the genres I like.

Do any of the St. Paul Libraries have a big selection of DVDs and CDs
for checkout? Who has the scoop on the St. Paul area Library system
for me? Can you log in and search for CD or DVD titles? I will be living
in the Highland Park area if that matters..??

Thanks
Tom

I bet they do and hopefully someone knows. Here in St. Cloud, MN we have the Great River library system www.griver.org and I can go on their website and request any dvd from any of the library branches and get it sent to my local library for me to pick up. Every DVD i've ever wanted, they've had it. Seems like they have just about everything. Great River has Libraries from Staples, MN all the way down to Buffalo, MN, they cover a fairly large area and it never takes long at all to get the dvds or books I request to my local library for me to pickup.

Though I don't know anything about Libraries in St. Paul, though considering St. Cloud is much smaller and worse then St. Paul is(I Love Love St. Paul!), im sure St. Paul has a fantastic library system.

Here is the St. Paul Public Library site, this looks to be the main Library in St. Paul, and they got several locations it looks like. I searched for some DVDS I like and you can request 'em right online! Looks like your in luck!

Good Luck!

What about a library with an actual STUDY area?? There are some libraries that have a small section dedicated to people who need to use the internet/computer but I haven't found a decent library that supplies study desks for school students. The only type of library that I have come across that was like that was at a college..

I don't know about St. Paul, but I think many local libraries offer desks, or sometimes set-aside quiet areas; the Walker Library in Minneapolis has quiet rooms, and the downtown library has lots of individual desks. Southdale Library has a number of individual desk carrels. Washburn Library has tables scattered throughout, and I often see students working on homework there. If you can't find something at your local library it wouldn't hurt to ask; some definitely have more study space than others, but all should offer at least some working space, even if it's not immediately visible. It's not always in the children's section, though.

No worries for you Tom as I think you will LOVE the library system here in the Twin Cities. All you need is a library card from one of the library systems, Minneapolis or St Paul and you can check out books from either library system. Also, we have the same system as what you are used to in Denver. Just go online, find what you want and click on the nearest local library for it to be dropped off.

Actually, often when I fantasize about leaving the Twin Cities because of our horrid winters, I worry that I won't find as good of a library system in any other city in the US. The libraries here are well stocked and one of the best uses of our high tax dollars.

Highland Park has a library right in the village. Enjoy.

Dakota County Library system also has a huge selection of CD's, DVD's, etc. Our library in Rosemount has study areas as well as glassed in "conference" rooms if you want a really quite study area. Most libraries have tables to work at as well.

You are more than welcome to visit and check out materials from most libraries in the Twin Cities metro once you get your library card. If one location doesn't have what you want, you will be able to request that item and have it sent to your location of choice.

There are many libraries around here to choose from - each has their own atmosphere and varying facilities so you may need to visit at least a few to find one you like going to. Highland Park does have a library there. You will be living very close to Minneapolis, so it's probably worth heading to Central Library downtown as well to check that out.
