So Cal to Minn or Idaho ??????
I want to move to an area maybe around White Bear or Stillwater, we would love land 2 to 5 acres & wildlife, from So Cal, my husband loves N. Idaho. Idaho is pretty, weather is milder, but family in Minn....
Any ideas/thoughts ? Its hard to make the decision when you just visit a few times. I lived in W St Paul for a year 13 years ago, it was ok...but I miss family. Didnt mind the winters, I love seasons. Tired of LA, traffic, crowds.
thanks:

I guess it is hard to compare the two but getting to/from Idaho from Minnesota isn't as easy as going to California if you are flying. If you want to be near family then move to Minnesota. What does your DH want Idaho? What is the attraction there?
If you want a little more mild winters yet want to be close what about Iowa or Sioux Falls, SD? The area around Cedar Rapids, Iowa is very similar to the Stillwater area. Sioux Falls area isn't quite as scenic but the weather is a bit more mild there.

I've never been to Idaho but relocated to Mpls from L.A. (raised in L.A.) with my job and have NO regrets! I LOVE Minneapolis...big city (well, relatively speaking) with a small town feel. So glad I got out of L.A.! I love the seasons though and would rather have a long winter than a long summer with Santa Ana winds! I would just do a lot of research on line and see which town/state has the most benefits/least drawbacjks?

Does the red state/blue state difference matter to you at all? Because Idaho and Minnesota are about as different as you can get without being on a coast....

I suspect many areas of rural Minnesota is going to be very different from the metro, though.

Minnesota is a "blue" state (which, coming from California, I like) but I've learned that the majority of Minnesotans are very "live and let live" and also most (that I've encountered) are intelligent in their politics...they like to know the issues and can swing either way based on who matches their beliefs (hence the current "red" governor). So it's not as cut and dry on issues as I've heard Idaho/Montana might be.
