I am planning on visiting Minneapolis in a month or so, and my wife and I are going to a Twins game at night on a Saturday. We will be staying at the Marquette, and I was wondering what the atmosphere is like downtown after the mass exodus of people. Does everyone just hop in their car or get on the bus and leave, or is it a party time afterwards (I suppose it differs whether a win was recorded or not)? Would it be a safe walk to our hotel from there, or not? I have never been out of a car while in the downtown area (always just passing through), and I have never been there at night, let alone after a Twins game lets out of the metrodome. Any and all advice about where to go afterwards, and how to get there is greatly appreciated!

Definitely restaurants and bars downtown will receive more traffic after a game but the area doesn't get out of control. You should have no problem feeling safe walking around after a game either. The only time I wouldn't want to be there is after we won the World Series in 1987 and 1991.

Its kind of a dump, to be honest. I love the city, but I am not a fan of downtown.

There's always the campus across the Washington bridge.

I've never walked *that* distance after a game; but it is safe to walk downtown Minneapolis at night if you keep to the busier streets. I've walked several blocks (say 4-6) after Twins' games; and most of the crowds are friendly and talkative IF the Twins win, less out-going if they lose.

As far as advice on where to go; I can't help you there. We usually get in the car and drive to one of the restaurants on our way home.

We have walked from the Metrodome to Hard Rock Cafe and it was fine. If you don't want to walk you can always hop on the light rail at the dome and take it over to Nicollet Ave.

If you want to tailgate or do some game related activities, show up early for the game. It is almost carnival like before the games out there (at least it was for the play off games we went to).

I worked at a pizza joint down town for five years, and a Saturday night gets way out of hand-Twins game or not. Granted that is not until bar rush, but in the mean time plenty of people will leave the game only to flood the bars and clubs near by.

Personally I would suggest skipping down town after the game.
