Why the racial tension people? I don't sense any angst from the OP so why go there? Nobody is trying to avoid diversity here.....and in the Twin Cities it's actually hard to completely avoid it because this city/metro is relatively well integrated compared to most Midwestern cities.

West and East suburbs are the worst places to look for diversity IMO

[quote=lalife;17034116]I am sorry but are you blonde / blue eyed? I get a racist vibe from this post. Your use of "they" is a dead give-away to this.

Currently, I am attending college and the sweetest person who I have met in the past semester was a Somalian woman. It helps that I pass for Arabic, I guess. It is just the way things are. If you look all-American, don't expect "foreign looking" people to trust you and want to be "best buds".[/QUOTE

First off, thanks for some great feedback. I've been checking out this site for the last couple of years now and recently just started posting.. it gives me a good idea of what to expect out of some of the communities/cities I've been looking into. To you lalife.. I apologize if I offended you.. you are right about one thing though, I am blond haired and blue eyed.. but racist and bigoted I am not by any means. I was concerned more on the attitudes by Somalians toward me and others around the Twin Cities. I now have a pretty good idea that I can expect different overall if we relocate back to Minnesota. Also, my main reason for wanting to relocate west of the cities is because I prefer a semi rural area like where we currently live in Oklahoma, not because it's all white and American. Maybe I should have given it a little more forethought before posting on this topic.. but I do appreciate the responses and again I apologize if anyone was offended thinking I was out "trolling" to stir up trouble. Happy Holidays!

lalife pointed out one thing, don't expect the Somalians to be best bud with you the day you come back to MN. I have a friend who has worked with the Somalians for 2-3 years, and she felt that she wasn't accepted into ther communites. She was upset but she didn't see their perspective. I told her that it's not about the years that you put in but the trust needs to be there. Every community functions differently.

I've lived in Minneapolis all my life, and I can say that the communities has definitely changed. There's a huge population of Somalis right by 94. Northeast also has a good population of Somalis, and it also has a good population of Asian Indians as well. Laotian community? Not so sure. I'm assuming they're either in St. Paul and/or South Minneapolis - I think, can't be too sure. The Hmong population varies, but for sure, they're mostly in St. Paul - Blaine/Coon Rapids area.
