Default Well Water In Hudson, WI?

Is the city water in Hudson, WI well water?

We recently looked at a house in Hudson and noticed that the water reeked. It smelled like well water mixed with sulfur and rotten eggs. It was enough to stop me from buying the house.

Anyone from Hudson (or Western WI) have any information on this.

Thanks in advance.

Lots of well water smells like this. I was told it is from iron bacteria. It won't hurt you.

Strange thing. My first well had sweet water with no smell. I had to have a new well dug because of low water flow. The second well has stinky water. Even though it tested just fine.

Late Post : Intended for other readers.

Iron bacteria is one possbility for the smell of "eggs". Hydrogen Sulfide is another possibility. Iron Bacteria can be visually detected in the back of toilets but running your fingers on the side wall. If you get a slimy substance that is typically iron bacteria. Another visual is an oil looking slick on top of the water. There are a few ways to treat both possibilities.
