I will be moving to Minneapolis with no job lined up. How hard will it be to get an apartment without proof of a job?

I've had 4 apartments in my life: three in Minneapolis, one in Philadelphia. And I have had no job for three of those apartments, and the one time I did have a job my landlord didn't ask about it.

So not very hard.

Things that make it even less hard, and make it so that you can perhaps have a nicer place, are: a good rental history, good credit...or without those, having a co-signer or being able to pay several months in advance.

I've never been in that position but I can't imagine too many landlords are very selective right now due to the current housing market conditions.

If you rent from a private party you probably will have an easier time. The large complexes are the ones that do the background checks, credit checks, etc. Some individuals do that too but not all.

Thanks for the advice. I have never missed rent anywhere I've lived since I began renting 8 years ago, so hopefully someone will take a chance on me. With that said, does anyone have a 2 bedroom rental available in downtown, uptown, dinkytown, etc. for under $900 a month. I need a place March 1st, roughly.

Just keep in mind that you'll be signing a 1 year lease, and the landlord will hold it to you to comply with your end of the contract.

Yeah 1 year lease is good for me. I've always been in 1 year leases. Besides I hope to stay in Minneapolis for 2 to 5 years (maybe longer), since I am going there to try and begin a career.
