But it's official. I'll be working in Minneapolis in 5 short weeks.

I know about the city quite well... Hm. Any recommendations on cheap places to rent near downtown? I'd prefer to live on the eastern half of the city because it's closer to where I'll be employed (near The U)

This is trippy, but I'll take it. Work, a new city with my ideal climate and an awesome cityscape? I'll take it. I'm excited!

Also, just for laughs, argue about the best place to get a juicy Lucy.

So rent and burgers, please. I need help. Looking on Trulia most places up for rent are rather pricey but that just may be the nature of the city.

I don't have anything to offer for advice, but I just want to say that I like your priorities: cheap rent and good burgers first, everything else we can figure out later!

Is there nothing else to strive for in life? Nah, I've done the research for everything else but so far it just seems you won't find a place near downtown in MPLS for less than $700, even with a roommate from what is listed online.

There are quite a few nice but modest places on the edge of downtown for well under that price. Have you been checking craigslist? You should be able to find places in Steven's Square or Elliot Park in the $525-650 range without too much trouble.

And, welcome to Minneapolis!

Can't help with the rent, but for burgers, try the Blue Door in St. Paul....variety of 'lucy's'...so good.

Are you workin near the St. Paul campus? Because the main (Minneapolis) campus is pretty central, so don't think you absolutely have to live on one side of town or the other.

And 5-8 Club has the best Lucy. Don't believe the Matt's lackeys.

Anyone knows where undergrads/grad students live? I'm early-20s and taking masters classes eventually (or so I hope)

I'm sure these places are cheaper.

I'll give 5/8 credit, because you're able to choose the type of cheese in your juicey lucy. However, Matt's has a much better atmosphere for a burger and fries.
