Well, Ted Mondale argues through the MinnPost.com article that the stadium will more than pay for itself and I responded to that article. You raised some points about new revenue sources to counter my arguments that this would cost the taxpayers money and I responded to you.

If the team leaves then we don't have to build a stadium and we don't have to pay $25 million a year in interest costs plus $500 million. So we don't need these phantom revenues you point to.

My point remains that you can argue for the stadium but unless you come up with some other way to get $500 million you cannot argue that it will not cost the taxpayers a lot of money. I never said we were "giving Zygi a billion dollars" but somebody sure would be getting a heck of a subsidy from the Minnesota taxpayers.

.
But it would be the death of the city. Why would anyone want to live here without an NFL team?

LA didn't die when the Rams left and Minneapolis won't die if the Vikings leave. Why would people want to stay? You aren't seriously arguing that people would leave the prospects of decent employment, reasonable housing prices, low traffic congestion, convenient access to recreational opportunities, and everything else that the Twin Cities have to offer because they didn't have a pro football team? I think most people have better priorities in life than that.

But I will say this: I admire you for advancing an argument that doesn't use smoke and mirrors to pretend that the stadium will pay for itself.

Yep, I suppose you got me there. But does this mean that there is no argument then except smoke and mirrors?

I do think it makes the cities more attractive because we have all 4 professional sports.

I agree with you. I am in favor of a stadium paid for by the team, the league, and users fees. The state should cover the other costs and not any single county.
