Lets celebrate our new title of Gayest City! I'm proud of that and I'm not afraid to say so! How awesome is it that we can be so progressive!

Congrats Minneapolis!!!!
I agree, this is a plus for Minneapolis and the State of Minnesota.

Good point. Congratulations, Minneapolis! Being such a "gay city", and a gay-friendly city, is one of the reasons I think this is such a great place to live. I love that my son is growing up knowing that families come in all configurations.

You're not worried that he's going to be confused about gender roles?

I was hoping we could rise above this kind of crap and actually, you know, have a conversation that requires brain activity. But if this self-congratulatory and mocking tone is going to win the day, somebody direct me to the thread where we mock gays and gay advocates mercilessly...

I thought this was a thoughtful article relevant to the discussion here:

‘That’s not pro-liberty’: Conservatives come out against GOP marriage amendment | Minnesota Independent: News. Politics. Media.

Here you go. More crazy from across the St. Croix:

Daily Kos: Walker moves to ban hospital visitation rights for same-sex couples

That's sure to fix Wisco's job and budget problems. How do you spell "overreach"?

What I like about the gays in Minneapolis is that they are normal people just trying to live a decent life and raise a family. From what I've seen, the SF gays are largely living the gay stereotype that does not help their cause. Walking around naked, participating in outdoor public sex acts at things such as the Folsom Street Fair, and I'm sure have some pretty wild clubs doing a lot of the same things. People would be turned off by heterosexuals doing that same sort of thing. It's immature and helps no one. I'm no prude, but come on.

I followed this link from the comments section on Minnesota Independent (which is hardly Independent, if the articles I have read on there in the past are any indication). It's pretty good--not necessarily comprehensive, but it contains some of the same arguments that I have made in this thread. Respond, if you'd like.

I'll take the bait.

I found the Ruth Institute blog post to be a poor bit of arguments. I really have found the arguments by you (by this, I mean southernsmoke) and Glenfield more convincing than this - and I mean this sincerely! It attempted to pick apart the Libertarian Party's stance, but really didn't do anything except ask pointless questions and call the party's position idiotic.

I also think the article completely missed the point anyways - it treated marriage only as a means for a man and a woman to raise a child. It even admitted that same sex couples "can live together, invest and spend money together, probably share parenting, and of course, do anything they want in their bedrooms" but failed to realize that a civil union would simply be protecting their ability to live together, invest and spend their money, parental rights, and do whatever they want in the bedroom.

I propose that adults be allowed to enter into any legal contract they wish, including marriage or whatever you want to call it, and that government have no further position. period.

Everyone would still be allowed to do what they want to and to associate with those they believe are living correctly. Yes, some guy in Utah would end up with 93 wives (some being his daughters) and maybe a couple husbands too if he swings that way. I say good luck to them.
