Default Looking for a GREAT Pediatrician or Family Practice Dr. Any suggestions?

My family and I will be moving there soon and I would like to know if anyone has a GREAT Pediatrician that they would recommend. ??

Our kids are 6 and 4, so even a good Family Practice doc would work. I don't really care where in the TC they are since I'm used to driving 45 minutes to our current doc.

Thanks!!!

I know you say location doesn't matter, but life will be MUCH easier if you can get something closer to where you live (or at least within 45 minutes -- depending on where you're living); if you're anywhere near Edina, we've found the staff at Edina Pediatrics to be very, very good. They also have an associated urgent care (open on weekends), which is nice to know about even if you do find a regular doctor elsewhere. Many of my friends and relatives have been very pleased with Partners in Pediatrics (multiple locations, but the people I know go to the Calhoun branch). Not sure which specific doctors they see.

We'll be somewhere South of City so those suggestions are great. Thanks.

Apple Valley Medical center is a great one stop clinic with docs in all different specialties as well as GP's. If you go here, Dr. Benson is awesome.

They also have an Urgent care, which is just OK, in my opinion. Since I'm a patient at the medical center, I was surprised the urgent care doesn't 'talk to' the medical center.

That 24 hour urgent care is sure handy when you have kids though.

We use the Dr's at the St. Paul Children's Clinic adjacent to St. Paul Children's Hospital. Our kids have been seeing Dr. McCord there since they were infants. He is leaving the practice to take a specialist position in another state however but all of the dr's there are good.

Dr. Durfort at Eagan Valley Pediatrics in Apple Valley is pretty great. He is fabulous with kids and a very good listener. He doesn't ever rush you out of the room and really values a mother's "instincts" instead of brushing them off. He is also not a big "medicine pusher" which I appreciate because I hate being prescribed antibiotics every time I walk in a doctor's office!

Default Insurance Provider

Piggybacking off this thread, is there an insurance provider that you recommend? My company offers Blue Cross Blue Shield and United HealthCare for the same price and same amount of coverage. I'm from out of state so I don't know about their reputations for service/network.

Thanks!

I would go with Blue Cross/Blue Shield. They are more widely accepted. We have had them for many years and no issues. They are also accepted by the Mayo Clinic, not sure if United Health Care is or not.

Southdale Pediatrics is great. We see Dr. David Miller but have really liked all but one of the docs there. They are great with last-minute appointments too for sick or injured kids (always can get you in and can do xrays and such on-site if needed).
