In my experience, the ones exaggerating are the people making these long haul commutes. It's like you want to convince yourself that you're not wasting all that time sitting in a car.
It's easy if you have a tracking GPS. The ones I have plot your position, speed, and (one of them) altitude every few seconds. Of course, if you're a crazy driver that might be TMI. There are web sites to help you plot that info as an overlay on Google Maps, etc.

Sure, if you made a list of the routes that you thought people were purposely exaggerating the commutes times for because they wanted to.... do what exactly? Why are these nefarious people exaggerating the amount of time it takes to drive places from Rosemount? Is this all some to make Rosemount look....uh... far away? Nah, I still don't buy it.

I have a hard time buying it too,

anyway, this thread probably needs to be locked, it is way off topic, and the original poster hasn't returned at all. This is supposed to be about Apple Valley to Golden Valley/Maplewood, NOT about debating whether it takes 20 or 40 minutes to go from South Minneapolis to Rosemount.

I don't disagree. My initial comment was an attempt to argue that people's estimates of how long it takes to drive from point A to point B are not really very reliable. In that attempt my comment was not off topic because the OP was asking people that very question. It didn't get off topic until someone took my example as a challenge.

I live in apple valley, so this this is biased, but I do love living here, and here's why. Our 1978 neighborhood has mature trees and walking trails galore that connect us with 5 local parks, there are abundant parks in apple valley. In addition, the schools are great and the amenities plentiful. All the standard big box stores can be found on the primary intersection. Lebanon hills, the county's second largest park, is also located in the city. And the area you speak of in general is my favorite: it's close to the zoo, has quiet neighborhoods, and is further north so it's closer to the city and Cedar ave. I commute to st Paul and it takes me 27 minutes most days.

Thanks for the rivoting read! I just wanted to post a reply so it didn't seem like I was decking out on my own thread. Anyway, I got the jist of the proposed commute times. I think others are right in questioning why would choose AV. It is still open, since the offer we placed on our AV house was not accepted.

I think I will focus more along 694 in Fridley, Little Canada, New Brighton, Shoreview.

Thanks everyone!!!
