What are best diamond in the rough restaurants? I'm talking about underrated, unknown, and unassuming. Places that don't get picked up by the "best of" restaurant lists that beat your expectations and have remained under the radar for too long.

Ya know, I passed this place on the way to broders, and it looked so nice and quaint, but I've yet to give it a try. French
Food I'm assuming?

Great thread, looking forward to seeing the replies, as I've just moved to the area.

I was just thinking of starting "Best Restaurants of [County]" threads for Ramsey, Hennepin, Anoka, etc when I saw this thread.

Yes, it's classic French bistro food --steak frites, lamb chops, escargot-- good service. I recommend the duck legs confit and the three little cremes brûlée for dessert. We go there fairly often and found it the same way... on the way to Broder's.

Taste of Thaiyai - thai food hole in the wall - Apple Valley
Cafe Ena - slightly upscale latin american fusion - Mpls
Malt Shop - Great for malts, but their food is awesome too - Mpls
Grandview grill - some of the best breakfasts/lunches I have had - St. Paul
Arezzo - I know many people know of this, but it doesn't get the credit of a Broders or many others, however I feel it is much better. Fresh made pastas and breads - Edina

Fat Nats Eggs in New Hope is good, they've also opened one in Brooklyn Park. I've only had breakfast there.

Saigon on University in Saint Paul for Pho.
Los Ocampos on Lake in Minneapolis for amazing Mexican and Horchata.
New Asia on Lexington in Saint Paul for Chinese.
Blue Door has my favorite burgers and they're small but I guess they're pretty well known.
