I just noticed that the exterior signs are now up for the new Whole Foods Market opening on Wednesday, October 12th in the former Circuit City space at 394 and Plymouth Road in Minnetonka.

Good use for the space in my opinion. I think the store will do well there.

Are they not also building a Whole Paycheck on the old Jaguar dealership space downtown?

I think talks have been on and off for years on that one with no official announcement made yet.

There is another one opening at Centennial Lakes Plaza in Edina next year.

The Strib had an article that mentioned this that was describing the huge amount of stuff that is coming to Hennepin Avenue. If it's true, then grocery stores will anchor both ends of downtown Hennepin, as Lunds is going in at 12th Street.

Here's the article: Star Tribune

I'd love to see a Rainbow or Cub downtown instead of a couple upscale grocery stores.

While a cheaper place would certainly be nice, I don't know how possible that would be. These sites are considerably smaller than a typical Cub or Rainbow, which likely make slim profit margins on their food, but make up for it because of the sheer amount that is purchased. At a smaller site, you can't have the same amount of selection, so I assume you make up for it by charging a bit more. Lunds and Whole Foods can do that and still attract customers. I don't know if a Cub or Rainbow could.

And, of course, if you're looking for cheaper groceries downtown, one block over on Nicollet is Target, which has a pretty good selection.
