I'm moving to Bloomington, Minneapolis and have some questions.
Hello everyone!!!! I'm moving to bloomington Minneapolis in 2 weeks from now. I have heard nothing about the place and started worrying about what it's like. I was wondering if bloomington was a nice part of minneapolis? Is it clean? I don't want to be in the poorest part of town and have to worry about my car getting broken into! If someone could help me out and tell me alittle bit about bloomington i'd apreciate it ALOT.
For more information i'm moving into the Devonshire apartments there. If anyone has any knowledge of those apartments, please tell me what you think of them.
I just hope i'm moving into a nice place. Thanks everyone!!!!

Well first, Bloomington isn't in Minneapolis, it is a city unto itself. There are good parts and bad parts around Bloomington. I had to look up where they were on the map, south of Old Shakopee Road will be an ok place to be. If you were closer to say the Mall of America then it might not be a good area. Bloomington is the 3rd largest city in Minnesota, except during the Christmas weekends when the Mall of America is loaded with people then it is the largest . I think you will find the area nice, safe and convenient to pretty much everything in the Twin Cities area.

Yeah, Blommington is an older suburb south of Minneapolis. It is probably about 10 miles from downtown Minneapolis. Like golfgal said, the 2nd biggest mall in the world is located in Blommington, so if you are a big shopper, that is a huge plus. The Minneapolis-St. Paul International airport is also dead next to Bloomington or in it, I'm not sure. But if you travel a lot it will be convinient for you.

Well, you're probably already here. Not really any bad areas of Bloomington.
FYI, the airport is technically a part of St. Paul but it's a city unto itself.
The light rail is a great way to get to downtown Minneapolis from the Mall of America.
If you have problems with your apartment, contact the MN Attorney General's Office, they have a brochure for renters.

So what do you think so far? :-)
I used to live in an apartment complex (Cedar Cliff Village) in east Bloomington (SW corner of Old Shakopee Road and Old Cedar Avenue), and I really liked it there, but the eastern part of the suburb was a little different (older houses, and I could walk down the hill from my apartment into the wildlife preserve by the MN river in like ten minutes).

The good thing about Bloomington is that it is on the North side of the Minnesota River. Any location on the south side of the Minnesota River is a NASTY commute if you have to head north over the river. I live in Apple Valley and the commute north is bad due to the limited number of bridges over the river.
It also doesn't help that Minnesota is very anti-transportation and doesn't believe in spending any money on anything related to transportation.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that. Go to any state down south and see how well the roads are maintained in comparison.
Also that bill was recently passed to make all vehicle related taxes to go straight to transportation funding, so changes are definitely being made to improve transportation in the Twin Cities.

minneapolis is the ghetto huh? interesting take on a city that's mostly very upper class and low crime.. moving to bloomington should pose no threat. there is not a single "bad" neighborhood or area.. most of the small amount of crime that happens is farther east than nicollet, but every area is very safe. i wouldn't be worried about it.

That note was from November 2006. But yeah, you're generally correct about Bloomington.
