I go scuba diving around Isle Royal most summers. Does that count? I know it is part of MI but seriously that place is gorgeous. I love Grand Marais and the Gunflint Trail as well.

How often do you go Up North???
I go to Crosslake, MN once a year to slum around on the Whitefish chain with college and GURPS buddies.

We tend to take a route which goes right by Grand Casino Mille Lacs. A very important stop!

Of course, for me Chattanooga is "Up North" these days..

No way...

If that's the beach I'm thinking of (on Breezy Point itself on the Beach Road side facing out towards the island), the A-frame cabin directly behind you when you took this picture is the cabin we built in the late 70's on Breezy Point. The front door "faced" the beach from the other side of the road, but the driveway pointed the other way (to Shoreview Lane), and we used the door on the right side.

We sold it because the folks in the condos kept on trashing the beach and (sometimes) driving in our yard, and the line of rocks were put out weren't enough deterrent. Also, it was expensive to keep up for something we only visited a few times a year.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if our building was gone and a larger one put in its place by now. Neither Google Maps nor Bing are clear enough for me to tell.

My grandfather bought those lots in the 40's or 50's before Breezy Point took off ... otherwise we'd not have been able to afford them.

We go to a small lake near Hayward, Wisc. It's not Minnesota, but we really love it up there.

Haha! Yea this was in the Resort by a playground. We stay at the Golf Villas just outside the main resort though, We went to eat at the Dockside Cafe (i think thats what its called) and walked along the shore, if you look at google maps these pics were taken just north of all the boat docks

Yeah, ok, and I was thinking the island was a little more tilted than I remember, anyway. Very cool, tho. I love that lake.

Brainerd Lakes area. Since the depression, DH's family has had what they have always referred to as a "cottage". We now have a place on the same lake. It's changed a lot even since I've been going there. I like going there but it's much more developed and more like a suburb of Mpls St. Paul than my idea of an "up north" destination. The greatest appeal is that family and friends are in this area.
