Bob Dylan and Prince make me proud. I am a music fan so this strikes close to home for me. Two of my favorite artists and they both happen to be from our backyard(s).

Wow, what a sorry thread. Pride is something you feel for something you personally accomplished. What does surviving the winter mean in our modern world? Having the aptitude to adjust your thermostat? Zipping up your jacket? Are these basic adult skills really things to take pride in, or are these things that you're supposed to do without really thinking about it or noticing it?

Being able to ski, boat, watch a sports game, go to a casino etc. So...proud to be an everyday consumer? Isn't that setting the bar a little low?

4 pages of responses, but so far they're all things that other people did or what mother nature did. It'll be interesting to see if anyone replies with an example of a source of pride in something they personally did that specifically pertains to Minnesota.

Mayo clinic, advances in science pertaining to medicine, development of new medical devices, the ability to adapt our economy and not fall into a trap like say Detroit did, high literacy rates, high educational attainment, honeycrisp apples. Lots of things fall into your category but it isn't what your average person here is proud of. We also have a tradition of not bragging and just getting things done so what did you expect .

I find this thread to be fun to read, fellow Minnesotans sharing why they are proud (multi definition word) of there state. That's another thing I'm proud of, the citizens of Minnesota and the pride we have for our state, the only thing we really complain about is Weather. In a state like California they have a lot to complain about

We also are good at representing out state. All the kids have the new era Twins hats, many clothing companies with graphics of Minnesota and we always wear a local team shirt when we are out of state

I have a lot of pride in some things I've accomplished, and most of those things were in Minnesota, but they don't really say "Minnesota" in any way so they would not be on topic.

I suspect very few people could comment given your limitations.

I guess I wrote various bits of weather, ACARS, and gross weights calculation code running on NWA's flight ops system (WorldFlight) that helped passengers get from MSP to many other places safely for over 20 years, but who cares about that? Besides, Delta is throwing those systems away.

What I can't stand is when people see something different about a place where they live and assume it is something inferior. Most places people prize what is distinctive. It takes a real sense of inferiority to think you must "fix" anything that makes you different. Frankly, I rate the things that make Minnesota just like other states at the BOTTOM of the value chart. America should never be about homogenization, but the electronic media exerts a constant pressure in that direction. I can never quite figure out why people complain about something, compare it to some other place that is supposedly "better", but WILL NEVER GET THE HECK OUT AND MOVE!!!!!! I'm the first to admit Minnesota isn't heaven for everyone, but I can see no particular reason it should be. America is so diverse, it has an optimal place for everyone. You just have to find it and move there.
