Is there a limit to the money that these special interest groups in Minneapolis will cost us? And they complain about us wanting to spend state money on an NFL stadium that will make money for us?

Xcel being forced to spend 13.6 mil to bury power lines that should be on towers. And they want all of us to pay, not just the vocal bicycle minority in Minneapolis.

Oops, sorry this is kind of political so apologies if you have to move it Mods.

Who is needing all the extra power? I would start there in terms of who should pay for the burial of cables.

The cost of which we'll pretend doesn't exist, of course, whenever we talk about other transportation options

I'm going to use exactly the same arguments these art loving bike riders used against the stadium bill. I'm going to say we need that extra 13.6 mil for schools and the arts and not for un needed buried power lines. In fact, I may picket.

And, of course, because instead of encouraging that slice of the American Dream of driving to the middle of nowhere to sit around and ingest copious amounts of beer and fatty food while watching, during a good year, a mediocre team engage in modern gladiator-ism, they encourage a healthy, sustainable lifestyle that takes congestion off the roads, improving the environment and minimizing transportation costs. Clearly the first set of priorities is more important!

Yes, let's calculate the "extra" costs of any new utility lines, upgrades, or improvements by how much is spend within municipal boundaries. Somebody doesn't want a tower in their backyard in Eden Prairie? Let's make sure that paid for by people in EP. And if we're gonna run high power lines out in the country, let's make sure we charge each farmer for the cost of the lines running across their property. Double it if they own a bike! Funny, I actually didn't see any reference to bikes in the story, or this one.... Gotta hate the bikes though!

The first question really should be why is any power line needed? 2nd question is should it be above or under ground. If there is some obvious reason existing infrastructure is inadequate, I say bury the line and assess the new consumer(s).

Random questions:
How much juice does it take to run a train?
How many vikings fans decided to buy 70" flatscreen instead of overpriced tickets?
Is there some new hoby trend that uses plasma cutters and arc welders?
Is there some new underground cult living in a tunnel under the greenway?

Somebody is hitting the juice and it should not be that difficult to find out who.
