I wouldn't consider it to really border Cottage Grove either. It is a good 8 mile drive to get to anything in CG except for maybe their golf course on the SE side.

As opposed to Denmark the country, which is east of the ocean.

This made me laugh.

So what do the posters on this thread think of Hastings as a place to LIVE, assuming a person had a job in Hastings and not in downtown St. Paul?

There is an opening there but honestly the houses in Hastings look kind of ugly, so I was reluctant to apply. (I know, don't judge a book by its cover).

Tx.

Hastings wouldn't be a bad place to live or work. It is close enough to both Minneapolis and Saint Paul to be able to get there and back in a couple hours. It still has the feeling that it is its own town, and not just a suburb.

Is the halfway house in town still open? It is on 18th street or (highway 291), next to the vets home. I heard it closed down last fall, but I'm not sure.

I have been in twin-cities for quite some time and I have never been to Hastings and infact if it wasn't for a sign near airport and HWY 5west where it says Hastings, I may not have known its existance as much as Kandiohi county (mentioned mainly during sever weather storm warnings)....Anyway, I got to see it this week and I asked few people what stands out in Hastings that is worth sight seeing and all said the vermilian water fall and so I went and checked it out. It was worth half a mile drive off my track. The water fall was pretty comparable to Minnehaha's fall except the fall it self is short distance and the water volume seemed a little more. It does not however have a park feel to it, for there is a massive silo/grainbelt? right next to the fall and it seem to have had some man made work done to it...

Next town Monticello, with my Geigar counter

Hastings is pretty close to Prairie Island plant - the other nuke in the state. Maybe 20 miles or so.

Yeah, the plant is about half way between Hastings and Red Wing. It is close to the Treasure Island casino.

I guess if Hudson WI is a suburb, then so is Hastings.
