Hello to all - In March, 2012, we are moving from Texas to somewhere The Twin Cities. Not sure where yet, we just sold our house in Texas (FTW) and will be flying to the area to find a house. The house we sold was on 2 acres, had a pool and had a wood shop - now I understand the Pool may not be a good idea up north but we are looking for a community that we can have at least a acre, but a shop is a must!
We know it will be cold up there but then it was hot down here! Always intresting to get in the pool and swim with a snake!! We normally have two seasons - Hot and Hotter with a day or two of cold mixed in. The other day it was 76 then it was 39 and the next day 75! I love it here but a new adventure awaits! We have never lived up north so what are we instore for? Like I said - I know the cold and snow - but what is the area like? best places to look for a house? Best food joints? Best shopping? - Any list of worst of those? Places to stay away from? (we can't stay away from Minnesota) - we have to come, job transfer! Thanks for all your help "yall" - had to throw that in somewhere....

Where will you be working? There are 100's of places to find what you want but without knowing where you are working it's hard to pinpoint a spot to start.

A lot of people have pools. A heated pool can be used pretty much Memorial Day through Labor Day if that gives you an idea if it is worth it or not to you to get a pool. Finding a house for sale with a pool isn't going to be all that easy, especially if you want some land so you might have to build one of your own.

lake elmo or stillwater could fit the bill. Do you want to live north south east or west?

West Metro (Best part of the metro outside the cities)
Medina, Minnetrista, Waconia.

East Metro (Not bad. and you would have a very easy commute to Downtown St Paul)
Lake Elmo, Afton.

Many people in the area actually have in-ground pools and they will be used ALOT in the summer!
