Think I'm going to take a little drive over to Stillwater this afternoon to kill some time. Anyone have any must-stop suggestions for restaurants, stores, etc?

Not necessarily the ideal season or weather for the trip, I realize, but I'll need to get my daughter and myself out of the house and a little drive is always nice.

We always like hitting up the large antique shop on the north end of town in the old mill building. Many dealers and what seems to be an endless array of nooks and crannies to explore.

Phil's Tara Hideaway is my favorite restaurant but it not downtown Stillwater... Do both! Walking around downtown and going through the shops is fun too.

Brine's downtown is a local "establishment". It's been in town for well over 100 years. It used to be a meat market with a restaurant on the upper floors but they moved the meat market out by the shopping area on 36 and now it is just a restaurant. They had a massive fire back in the early 80's that prompted the change. It's a hamburger type place and the food is hamburger type food.

Stroll up and down Main Street. I don't know if the trolley is operating now or if that is just a summer thing but if you can, it's worth taking the tour to see the old houses. If not, a drive up South 3rd Street, 4th Street North and South and North 2nd street are worth it. Stop at Pioneer Park along North 2nd street for a great view. The house across the street from Pioneer park with the pink trim (yuck but still) is one of the first houses built in MN (corner of 2nd and Cherry St.).

Swing through the library. The old section of the library is quite nice just to look around.

On your way out of town, stop at Nelson's for ice cream. It's a block south of Myrtle Street on Greeley Street. Order a small, their servings are HUGE.

These are great suggestions, thanks! Might have to just print this page out and take it along.

Now if only this kid would take a nap, so we'd be ready to go
